Who wish to stay in Golf Club hotel, Nuwara Eliya, please “stay at your own risk” rather than staying with the home like feeling. I am writing this to inform that an incident happened in Golf Club hotel, Nuwara Eliya.
I stayed in Golf Club Hotel, Nuwara Eliya one night September, 2019 with my office colleagues. We three ladies were in one room (room no 08). As the safety locker was not properly worked, my belongings were in my hand bag.
The following morning we got up at around 5.30 a.m. and I noticed that my belongings (three rings worth Rs.200,000.00 including wedding ring, Rs.14,000.00 in cash, the voice recorder and the pen drive) which were inside my hand bag (kept on a table in the room) were missing. After that I took action to inform the said hotel management regarding that situation and complained to the Police Station in Nuwara Eliya district.
I want to highlight you that according to THE TOURISM ACT, No. 38 OF 2005 regulation no. 12, Hotel shall ensure adequate safety and security of the guests and their belongings. But after occurring this incident we noticed that there were no proper safety measures. The fence around the room was severly damaged and no CCTV cameras and no security officers around the hotel. Though ‘window of the bathroom’ had been closed at the time I went to the bed, in the morning I was able to see the window was opened. Also there were several broken furniture outside the bathroom which could be supportive for someone to peeping in to the bathroom. During the investigation, the inspector of police, Nuwara Eliya also recognized that the said hotel as a highly risky place. Further I want to emphasize most terrible situation in this case which could be happened is if one of us got up when the thief was inside the room, definitely he would have kill or done harmfull. Three of us are still shocked about this horrible experience during the stay in such a prestige hotel.
At the same time, I got to know that there was another robbery for banking officer who stayed in room no.06. in the same Golf Club hotel, Nuwara Eliya. The safety locker in his room was also not properly worked and he had informed that to the room boy.
Later on I got to know that this is not the first such incident that happened in Golf Club hotel and a dismissed employee was still going to the hotel. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the room boy who delivered service to us might have been involved in this case.
Considering all the information, I requested a compensation for my lost belongings during the stay in Golf Club Hotel, Nuwara Eliya. Though I waited more than five months, very regret to inform that I have not received a positive response from them so far.
I firmly instruct everyone who wish to stay in Golf Club hotel, Nuwara Eliya, please “stay at your own risk” rather than staying with the home...
Read moreThe Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world. It is an institution, rich in tradition, history and carries an ambience unparalleled in this country. Founded, primarily for their rest and recreation, by the British planters who cultivated the land for tea in the Nuwara Eliya district, to this day it caters to some of the customs and traditions of the country’s colonial past. This quaint admixture of old-world charm and modern trappings invests it with a special aura, and is the essence of its attractiveness. It is located in Nuwara Eliya, known the world over for the premier quality of the tea produced in the plantations that surround the club. Despite being situated just a stone’s throw from the town, the club still maintains an air of exclusivity, a desirable apartness, so that when one enters its gates, one is transported to a world that has been left behind by the march of history.
The 18-hole course, 6,399 yards long, is a testing par 71 and is made up of long , narrow fairways, bordered by rows of towering eucalyptus trees and elegant cypresses, held together by dense acacia shrubbery. Good positional play is a must for a positive outcome and the course terrain, with its succession of undulating dales and hills, and the many water hazards, confronts the serious golfer with a series of stimulating challenges. Yet, despite its natural difficulties, it also caters to both the casual golfer and the enthusiastic amateur. The grass on the greens is native, mixed with bluegrass. We welcome golfers of all ages and abilities. We have a well-earned reputation as ‘one of the friendliest clubs’ in the country and aim to provide an experience that exceeds expectations, both on the golf course and in the clubhouse. The service at the club is designed to care for the family whilst the serious players compete out on the park. Assisted by a team of highly competent ground staff, we work very hard at providing a course that can be enjoyed by everyone. Our members play socially and competitively. Read moreFor the short period of my time that I have lived on this planet I have done a fare share of traveling with my parents. My dad is an expatriate and our hobby is traveling. The experience I had at the Nuwara Eliya golf club is by far the worst experience ever. The manager Rohan was soooo rude to the point I felt like he is the reincarnation of "Professor Moriarty of Final Problem" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So the story goes as this. My parents and I went on a two day break to Nuwara Eliya. We have heard of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club and my dad wanted to checkout the place before we decide to get the membership of the club. When we went to the club we noticed a women and two men standing and talking to each other. They looked like they were employees . The women immediately told my dad he cannot wear flip flops to the club. My dad is a flip flop lover and where ever he goes in Sri Lanka, a tropical country would love to feel relaxed. It was a pretty good weather day and it was not cold at all around 10.30AM. We respected the the policy of the establishment even though it was comical in many way's in 2020 and stayed at the entrance. We very politely requested to see the manager or someone who could give some information of the place and maybe a show around. Upon hearing our request one of the men who I earlier mentioned walked away from us. we did not know that he was the manager Rohan. I was shell shocked at that point!!! Here we were requesting a show around and this homunculus guy walked away from us? We had to wait for another 5 minutes until he came reluctantly. There was not a drop of smile in his face. He was the rudest, uptight manager I have ever seen. He was rude to his staff when they could not find the correct brochure of information. I was thinking is this because my dads flip flops ? I think manager Rohan thought its a shame for him to talk to my dad who was wearing flip flops and it had triggered him to act so rude. We left the place thinking is this the last drool of colonialism in Sri Lanka? Then we had a good laugh about it. We went get the membership and now we will never ever recommend this place to...
