Set in a massive calm and soothing landscape, the museum itself is really spacious and has almost everything from the sinhala folk culture and gives you a rich and vibrant picture of the village life of the past. The ancient home of Martin Wickramasinghe along with the items he used and a large photograph gallery with informative descriptions is also located within the premises. A bookstore that sells the books with special discounts is also available near the entrance.

The museum opens at 9am and closes at 5pm and the ticket is Rs 50 for local adults. It is really worth the price! It takes around a hour and half to sightsee the whole place. The venue is directly and easily accessible from the main road (infront of The Fortress, Koggala) and the car park is amply spaced.

The colossal museum houses Buddhist monuments, artifacts of sinhala literature, agricultural tools, ancient puppet models, ancient units of measure, ancient masks used for dances, tools used in the clay, stone, brass, gem and silver industries, clothing of the past, a kitchen of the ancient homes, decorations and ornaments, large scale models of inventions of the sinhalese such as bisokotuwa, weaving machines, each and every novel and book of Martin Wickramasinghe, land and water vehicles of the past such as various types of carts, boats, clothing styles of different races and casts, and many more...

Pls excuse my error when I say Folklore, I meant to say Folk, but the former just slipped out unconsciously. The Martin Wickramasinghe museum is a precious glimpse into what life in ancient Sri Lanka would have looked like and an activity that is insightful to both tourists and locals alike! #srilanka #martinwickramasinghamuseum

Take a step off the main road in Koggala and into the cooler and shadier confines of the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum. This lovely site offers a restful leap back into the history of Sri Lanka. After buying your ticket, you will be free to roam the tranquil gardens that surround the museum. The highlight of the museum is the simple, unassuming house where the famous author Martin Wickramasinghe was born. Simply stepping inside the building feels intimate and special; you will have the opportunity to view his antique writing desk, one of his books, and other objects that inform you of the type of person Mr. Wickramasinghe was at a glance. The museum itself is a plethora of ancient and interesting items from village life, and everyday living. You will witness a large bullock cart, naturally, a traditional fishing boat, and various tools that have long been used for agricultural purposes. You will find yourself in hallways filled with colorful folk masks, puppets, and several neutral-toned utensils used to cook in kitchens from years ago. As you stroll quietly through the gardens of the museum from one exhibit to the next, you will appreciate the "stepping back in time" aspect of the museum. The museum comprehensively reflects and preserves Sri Lankan culture and a simple way of life for all to witness and appreciate.
