I don't normally write bad reviews but unfortunately on this occasion I was left with no choice. Although the room was very spacious, staff were very helpful, and the view is amazing. There were a number of issues that are worth highlighting.
Firstly, the hotel is situated down a poorly lit, un-paved road, on our first night walking home a man followed us down this road asking for money, it would likely not be suitable location for any solo female travellers.
Secondly, there was breakfast advertised, which was not once offered to us on any morning during our stay.
Lastly, on our second last day, the electric shower would not work when the rest of the electric was ok. One of the attendents were very helpful, when removing the plug one of the pins were stuck in the wall. The following day my partner was having a shower in the electric shower, and it began to billow smoke, the plug even melted. We discussed this with the host who blamed the government and the local power plant. We discussed the dangers of fire and electricution due to the faulty plug in a shower, he denied that it was due to the faulty plug and was not able to provide accuracy on when it was last checked. Even with these dangers highlighted the host only offered to discount 3,000 rupees (10$) hardly a discount considering the risk that could...
Read moreThe "Mystery" was revealed and what a lovely surprise it was. I followed the gps while riding my scooter and found the track which went from the sealed road to dirt track - I loved the adventure!
I parked and had no idea where I was but followed my instincts up a track which became a beautiful cemented path with pit plants helping to guide me up and to the entrance of the stay.
I had only been able to secure the 1st level room as the top floor was booked out. Stepping in and turning to my right the double glass windows and door opened into the balcony to review the most impressive unobstructed view of little Adam's Peak you can imagine. WOW.
So, once I caught my breath and stepped inside I was pleased to find a lovely double bed, fridge, TV (don't need that haha), and everything I needed for a short stay. Thoughtful little extras like plates, cups, water in the fridge, a couple towels reminded me of Airbnb stays - a nice improvement from several places I've stayed in Sri Lanka.
Oh and the bathroom, huge glass window so you can shower while viewing the whole...
Read moreUnfortunately I had to stay here on May 3rd 2025. The entire Ella and Sri Lanka had power except this mystery hotel.
No power to charge phone as well , and the owner despite knowing the problem never bothered to even come and check if we need anything. Not even an emergency light was provided until the power was back on late in the night at around 9.
Could have informed us about your problem and I could have searched something else to stay for the night.
And the audacity to tell me to search for another room at 7:30 pm with no light to come out of room or even the main road during such heavy rain. Hmmm .
Not sure what I should term my experience with this hotel as. frustrating ? Horrible ? Pathetic ? Everything falls short for this hotel.
Please don't go by the great reviews like I did.
End of the day they wanted full money for the night I stayed in, seriously ? Should I even pay you guys ?
Ended up paying 6000 LKR at the end with...
