Ranmasu Uyana is an ancient royal garden located in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It's a beautifully preserved archaeological site that dates back to the Anuradhapura Kingdom, which flourished from around the 4th century BCE to the 11th century CE.

Here are some key highlights:

Royal Gardens: Ranmasu Uyana means “Royal Goldfish Park.” It was used by kings and royalty for leisure, especially for bathing and relaxation.

Advanced Hydro Engineering: The park features sophisticated water management systems, including baths, ponds, and channels, showcasing the advanced hydraulic engineering of ancient Sri Lanka.

Scholars and enthusiasts have many theories about its meaning, from cosmological diagrams to ritual symbols. Tips for Visitors Access: The entrance is located near the Isurumuniya Temple. Ranmasu Uyana is the Royal Garden of the era gone by. Anuradhapura Kingdom was one of the pinnacles of technological marvels in Sri Lanka and this Garden bears witness for it. It consists of bathing ponds with water supplied to it from the nearby Thisa weva (tank) through unimaginable techniques. The Garden also consists of the “Star gate” which historians are unsure of the purpose. It is said to span for approximately 40 acres and is rich in garden architecture and landscaping. The various ponds are believed to be used for bathing of the royal family and servants, and the remains of small buildings are thought of to be used by them. According to legend it is believed that Son of King Dutugemunu, Prince Saliya met his beau of great beauty, Asokamala in this garden, for whom he abdicated the throne. The word “Ran masu” means Goldfish. The Star Gate “map” is said to be encircled by fish. The Garden is said to have first constructed in the time of King Tissa in the 3rd Century BC. But the “pleasure pavilions” and other fixtures apparently date from the 8th to 9th...

Today we are going to talk about a beautiful place that is now in ruins but reminiscent of the days of ancient kings. It is called Ranmasu Uyana ..

Today I will start the story about how this golden garden got its name .... How do you know that?

According to the Vessagiri inscription of King Mihindu IV, golden fish have been kept in the ponds of this garden.

It states that it was called 'Ranmasu Uyana' because there were such golden fish.

You know, in addition to this, this garden is also known as the wedding garden.

It is said that this beautiful garden was set up for the enjoyment of the kings.

It is said that this garden is one of the turning points in the love story of Saliya Ashokamala ..

According to ancient legends, the village of Heraloligama where Ashokamala lived is located a short distance from the Ranmasu Uyana.

There is a legend that Ashokamala who lived there met Prince Saliya in this beautiful garden ...

Surrounded by the Mirisaweti Vihara in the north, the Isurumuni Vihara in the south and the Thisawewa Thaval in the west, Ranmasu Uyana is a vast area of forty acres.

Also, it is clear from the excavations that there was an excellent water supply system in the Ranmasu garden.

That is to say, Ranmasu Uyana is one of the most important ponds built during the Anuradhapura period. Lots more stories to tell about this I will write more in the future ....

Ranmasu Uyana, located in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, is a historical garden dating back to ancient times. Translating to "Gold Fish Park," it is believed to have been a pleasure garden for the royalty during the reign of King Agbo II (604-614 AD). This unique garden features a sophisticated irrigation system and several ponds, including the Lotus Pond, which is particularly renowned for its intricate design. Ranmasu Uyana is also home to the famous Isurumuniya Lovers' sculpture, a carved depiction of a couple in a loving embrace. The serene atmosphere, coupled with the historical and artistic elements, makes Ranmasu Uyana a compelling site for both history enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful escape. The combination of ancient ruins, well-maintained ponds, and the artistic treasures scattered throughout the area contributes to its charm and significance.
