The castle ruins are beautiful and the view is gorgeous from the second story. You have to walk carefully since the ground is uneven. You can bring your dog as long as you keep it on a leash. I was unlucky and visited the day after they'd ended their guided tours for the summer. Luckily they have an app where you can download a guided tour, listening to short snippets by different numbers in the castle. This is where I have to give fewer stars because there's a discrepancy between where the numbers are placed in real life and on the map in the app, making it very hard to find some of the spots. And they're supposed to be marked by red flags but not all of the numbers are. Eventually, after running around trying to find the numbers, I gave up. It's still worth a visit if you enjoy old castle ruins and are in the neighborhood. If you like me prefer to have a guide I recommend you go here during high season when there are actual guided tours.

Oh, also. The toilets outside of the entry cost 10 sek to visit. (I have strong opinions about that.) If you are planning to go inside the ruins, hold it in and use the free toilets...

This castle was a lot more entertaining than I expected. Many different views, nooks and crannies to explore. There are 3 floors currently open to the public with their own unique areas and architectural designs. There was also an art gallery in the basement /main floor but the main attraction was definitely the courtyard. Would def recommend visiting if you are in the area! If you have kids, this is an amazing place for them to roam and have fun but be aware of certain unsafe and slippery areas.

Admission to enter is a bit pricey (100kr) and they have a souvenir shop as well on the premises. You can roam around the castle from the outside for free though.

Lastly, there are two parking lots. 1st one is usually full from the entrance, but the 2nd one has a nice hidden scenic back path through the cows...

We had a fantastic time. We'd read online there was a dragon treasure hunt for kids but wasn't expecting such a well put together treasure hunt. The kids loved it. Special mention for the guy at reception who was great at talking to the kids and explaining the story and rules. Always good to see someone do that little bit extra to make our day even better. The castle was great with lots of well put together interesting information and exhibition. I'd read on one low rated Google review that the carpark is very expensive but when we got there, we found it was free during opening hours so I'm not sure what happened with that reviewer. Highly recommended place to visit on your...

My visit to Borgholm castle was truly unique in the purest sense ever. I was all alone and as such had the joy of exploring every corner and crevasse of this vast castle all in my own sweet time. And if ever there was a castle to explore! Impressive restoration and preservation made it possible to go everywhere you'd wish. See if you can find the naturally made markings on the wall: slaughtered pig hanging, hen with one foot and the infamous dog eating a sausage. They had made some fun gimmicks to take selfies on which I couldn't resist. In every sense of the word an unique experience
