Rindö Redoubt — Attraction in Vaxholms kommun

Rindö redutt is a redoubt (fortification) on Rindö outside Vaxholm in the Stockholm archipelago. It is located on the island's western cape and was built to complement Vaxholm's castle at the defense of the entrance to Stockholm via Kodjupet and Norra Vaxholmsfjärden in the north. Due to the redoubt's high position on the headland, it was possible to control the sector to the north and northeast and to bombard the water next to the castle with cannon fire. Denna hyfsat rejäla gamla fästning från 1863 var aktiv i försvaret fram till 1940-talet, även om den förlorade sin funktion redan 1925. Var det 20:e batteriet i Vaxholmslinjen och skulle hjälpa Vaxholms fästning att försvara inloppet till Stockholm och hade lite olika beväpning genom åren. Runtomkring finns också rejält med stenar i olika storlekar uppställda för att försvåra framkomligheten för fienden.

Är fortfarande i bra skick, har väl genomgått en del renovering under åren. Tyvärr är byggnaderna inte öppen för allmänheten så kan man kan bara utforska utsidan, vilket är trevligt också. Tror dock att det anordnas guidade turer under sommaren.
