Hamnkrogen — Restaurant in Vaxholms kommun

We stopped at one of the only restaurants in Vaxholm that is open and serves traditional food. We were welcomed by a great waitress and offered a really by the window with view to the sea. Was great the view and the calmness of the place.

The menu was not very big but was fairly in terms of prices. They had some fish stuff, some hamburger, some kottbullar, the wife loves those btw.., and also vegetarian solutions.

I had that hamburger, which to be fair I didn't give it enough expectations. After all ..I was ordering it in a village close to the ends of civilization on the North part. But no....I was amazed of how nice was done. The meat semi raw yet not bloody, the sauces were a magical show of color and taste, the salad and cucumber on top...were just the right amount of pickled. OMG... That was an experience.

Also the wife was extra satisfied. She spent 5 days in Sweden and probably a few weeks at the Ikea restaurants across Europe. She is an expert in kottbullar... And when I asked her how get meal was she gave me the 5* review. It was the best and furthest kottbullar she ate.

So.. What can I say...go for it. U will be happy with the food and pleased...

NOT your usual sloppy swedish lunch place with plastic trays and staff yelling numbers to waiting patrons. Don't let the sublime facade fool you, inside this kitchen works people who know their trade and take pride in their work. Excellent courses in the "Swedish Husman" style, cooked to order with love is what they offer. Served at the table to avoid the number yelling. Thenrelatively low cost lunch even includes a great salad buffé, coffee and lunch beverage. But don't expect to be alone in this place, many have discovered...

I had the meat balls and they were delicious. The mash had the good taste of patato and the lingon berry wasn't a jam but the real berry, It was my first time trying this Swedish tradition, but my partner who had tried different meat balls before in restaurants of Sweden also said they were the best he has had. He had the fish casserole and it was also delicious. We tried another famous restaurant on the island not far from it but this one was our preference....
