Engstligenfälle in Adelboden is truly one of the most breathtaking natural sights I’ve had the pleasure of visiting in Switzerland. The falls are not only the second-highest in the country, but they offer a raw, powerful beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Surrounded by the stunning Bernese Alps, the whole area feels like a postcard come to life.
The hike to the falls is scenic and rewarding, with a well-maintained path that gives you multiple viewpoints along the way. Depending on the route you take, the trail can be a bit steep in places, but nothing too difficult if you're in reasonable shape. There's also a cable car (Unter dem Birg to Engstligenalp) for those who want a more relaxed visit or wish to explore the plateau above.
In spring and summer, the falls are especially impressive due to the snowmelt, creating a thunderous and dramatic display of water crashing down the cliffs. The sound and mist alone are worth the visit. The surrounding meadows, alpine flowers, and occasional sightings of cows with bells add to the charm.
Overall, Engstligenfälle is a must-see if you're in the Adelboden area. Whether you're a hiker, a nature lover, or just looking for peace and beauty, this place delivers on every level.Engstligenfälle in Adelboden is truly one of the most breathtaking natural sights I’ve had the pleasure of visiting in Switzerland. Read moreWhat a beautiful place to go for a walk. We stayed in Adelboden for 4nights. The waterfall was 35min walk from us. One day we took the cable car near by and did the chinbettipass and the next we just enjoyed the easy trails near the waterfalls. Our friends did the via ferrata that goes right by the waterfall and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Very well maintained tracks. Some steeper bits where decent footwear would be recommended. Loads of parking which is free if not too close to the cable car. In the forestry there is a bbq area. Lovely walk back to edge of Adelboden where...
Read moreFor anyone interested in waterfalls, this is a must, and we go there almost every year mid June, when the water flow is important. At that time of the year, you can take the cable car up to the alpine plains where several streams join to create the fall, that has two parts with a total drop of about 600 m. You can hike down (or up if you have the courage) along either side of the water fall, but need to be careful in certain sections of the trail. After your physical efforts you can have a Rösti in he restaurant close to where you...
