After a scenic 20-minute cable car ride from Grindelwald Terminal, you arrive at Männlichen, the starting point of the Royal Walk. We went early in the day to catch a good weather window, and it was absolutely worth it—the views were spectacular.
Tip: Be sure to check the local Swiss weather apps before you go. If it’s cloudy or raining, you’ll miss what makes this walk so special. Timing it right makes all the difference.
While some reviews (especially on AI or Instagram) describe the walk as easy, it’s actually a steep gravel path—short but quite an incline. We saw several tourists, particularly from larger groups, struggling a bit on the way up. That said, it’s still accessible to most people with a bit of fitness.
Having hiked a number of peaks in the area, this was a welcome, easier option—a chance to enjoy incredible views without a full mountain trek.

The short hike to the crown-shaped lookout was well worth it for the panoramic views even if the peaks were partially hidden behind the clouds.
Was glad I carried a hiking stick. The trail had some steep sections both up and down and the extra support made the climb more comfortable.
There was one unexpected highlight. A group of cows suddenly came running downhill, startling a couple who was relaxing on a bench. What a scene! (See video)
