Nice and challenging hike to see the Trift suspension bridge and Trift glacier. The hike starts at the top of the Triftbahn cable car station and is 3.3km to the bridge. The path is a well-trodden path with rocky sections with rock steps that you have to climb up. Good hiking shoes and poles are recommended. The hike is mostly uphill and takes 1h30 min to get to the bridge at a moderate pace. It took me 1h10 min to walk the 3.3km back (downhill) to the cable car. I booked my tickets for the cable car online and had to book a time to go up and to descend. Make sure you leave enough time to hike back from the bridge to the cable car! I was only able to book cable car times that left me 3h at the top - so I only spent about 15 min at the bridge and glacier. I would suggest leaving at least 4 hours at the top to have a more leisurely visit. The suspension bridge is about 100m across the gorge and is quite solid. You can walk across and spend time on the other side before heading back. Great view of the Trift Glacier from the bridge. Definitely worth the hike!

Getting to the Triftbrücke is a 1,5 - 2 hour hike from the station at the lower part of the valley. The lift (called Triftbahn) is accessible in Gadmen. Getting up to the start of the hike takes just a few minutes with a lovely view over the scenic Swiss mountainscape. The hike itself is not that difficult and easily doable for any amateur hiker I'd say. The route is clear and leads to the edge of a glacial lake where the bridge is located. The views of the valley are stuninng, as are the sights when you finally get to the end of the hike. It's a pity to see the Trift glacier itself had shrunk such an enormous amount over the course of a century, and a small information stand at the end of the hike shows you the history through a view photographs. As a bonus tip: when in this region, I'd recommend going over the Sustenpass as well, which is a bit further to the west from Gadmen. Great scenic route!

The Triftbrücke is a spectacular suspension bridge located in the Swiss Alps, near the Trift Glacier. Stretching 170 meters (560 feet) across, the bridge spans the Triftsee, a glacial lake, providing access to the Trift Hut and serving as a key crossing for hikers and mountaineers. Constructed to replace an earlier bridge that was damaged due to the retreat of the Trift Glacier, the Triftbrücke offers stunning views of the surrounding mountainous landscape and the turquoise waters of the glacial lake below. The bridge is known for its challenging and adventurous approach, as visitors typically embark on a hike to reach it. The Triftbrücke is a testament to Swiss engineering and provides a thrilling experience for those seeking both natural beauty and an adrenaline-inducing crossing in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

I originally found this bridge on google maps and just had to experience it for myself! We arrived a bit late (around noon) and the lady warned us that we could miss the cable car on our way down since bad weather was on the way. (That would mean an extra 2-3 hours of hiking.) We decided to take the chance and so glad we did. The high altitude was definitely noticeable after our cable car ride up to the starting point. The weather started out warm, but by the time we reached the top, the wind was blowing so hard and it was spitting rain. Crossing the swaying bridge was no easy feat! Next time, we’d like to continue on to the hotel at the top of the mountain. Also, please stay on the track. (There are no shortcuts!!)
