Strongly recommend the Hotel should sever your relationship with Chalet des Bains - where we were trapped into enduring a recycled meal consisting of poor food badly cooked, condescendingly served in pretentious but slovenly conditions.
The fact that you mention Chalet des Bains on your website and also that reception offered them as one of your two restaurants gave us the impression that it is under your "brand" and we can therefore expect the same high level of quality of service and of food that we experienced at your own La Table des Bains.
Unfortunately, the service at Chalet des Bains was shockingly shameful, start to finish. The welcome was not very friendly, e.g. the host said "be certain if you want outside or inside since we cant move you if you change your mind". That should have been a red flag. Then the waitress seemed offended when we asked to see a wine list and took her sweet time to procure it, turning her full attention to serving other tables and ignored us for quite a while.
When our meals arrived, not only drenched in oil but worse, a long black hair tangled in the rosti. I avoided the waitress and went looking for someone else to help. He took it away with an apology but the one he brought got back about 10 minutes later was clearly the same plate of food, minus the hair and with some patchups done to it and covered up with an egg.
I even saw the chef pop his head outside and look at our table, as if to see who found the hair. He ducked back in when I looked directly at him.
All in all the doomed visit to the "Chalet des Bains" COMPLETELY SPOILED an otherwise fantastic experience to that point. They say about holidays you remember the first thing and the last thing that occurred. That meal was the last thing that happened so unfortunately we are unlikely to forget this, long after we forget the beauty of the location, the superb bath facilities and the amazing food and service at La Table des Bains.
PS you'd have expected that yes mistakes happen and they can be forgiven, but there were many mistakes made during the same visit, indicating a pattern of poor performance that is hard to forgive. Not only that, after that nasty hair incident, you'd expect the manager to come out and say "sorry guys, let me offer you a bottle of wine", or "sorry and don't worry, that part of the meal is on us". None of that. We had the full bill and the host said, "we wont charge you for the (one) coffee", and seemed real pleased with the gesture. Amazing. In summary, take "Chalet des Bains" off your website and dissociate yourselves with them, they will only...
Read moreThis review may help like-Americans and first-time-thermal bathers My husband and I spent an afternoon here as recommended by friends we were visiting in Lausanne. They helped us make arrangements online as baths were indicated as “by appointment only”. We all had a difficult time trying to purchase the bath tickets…something was definitely wrong with the site. It required that we book a spa treatment for both of us before being able to move forward, but there weren’t even slots available for both of us to have a massage? Somehow our friend managed to book the baths plus a massage for myself only—but that entire process was super frustrating! You didn’t want to make the trip without knowing you wouldn’t be turned away without the bath reservation. This was our first time in a thermal bath of any kind, and we also don’t speak or read French so we were trying to understand the process of entry to the baths by looking around at what others were doing. After we undressed, we couldn’t figure out where to get towels. When I asked an employee, he said that you need to bring your own and they don’t offer any. My husband had to leave the bath to buy one in a gift shop for 20 franc—we found it kind of ridiculous that no towels are offered for use with the admission cost. There was nothing on their website that indicates you need to bring your own towel either. On their website, everyone is shown walking around in these lovely bath robes—we assumed this would be provided since that is what it looked like! We’ll know better for next time but it was still a waste of 20 minutes and 20 franc for a tiny microfiber towel. Also, you need to place your admission card in a slot to exit the bath area (as my husband needed to in order to acquire the towel…) but this also takes the card and then you can’t re-enter. Lots of headaches in the beginning for sure! However! Once we finally got into the baths, we enjoyed every minute of the warm waters and relaxing atmosphere. You can’t beat views of the mountains while soaking. The pools were clean and it wasn’t too crowded when we went on a Wednesday afternoon. Sasha gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had! Hate to give only 4 stars but there’s definitely room for...
Read moreThe baths are really good! Everything was spotless even though the place was packed when we were there. I recommend booking in advance. Even if it's just the day before. We arrived at 1pm for a 3 hour stay and it was already getting crowded. When w left at 3.30 people were waiting in line for the later sessions. Busy! However, the place is Huge. So for the most part it didn't feel like a crush. There are so many areas to explore. However, be aware, if you're traveling with kids, most of the really cool areas are 16y + only (e.g. saunas, Hamams, relaxation rooms). The outside pools were not super hot, so you can stay for ages without overheating (we were there in the winter. Summer might be different). The saunas, Hamams, Turkish baths, and relaxation rooms are fantastic. You just have to find the spaces that you like. Our favourite was the relaxation room with the open fire. I got to some weird zone of relaxation that I honestly haven't felt much before. Amazing (results may differ). The eating options weren't great for us, because it was so busy, but that wasn't really the point for our family. There is a full restaurant, but we didn't visit that. We considered the waffles for the kids, but bailed in the end because.it was so crowded there (this is as we were leaving). Other good things: Entry includes a locker activated by your entry bracelet. Super clean. Family friendly Caters for most tastes Well organised.
Things to keep in mind: You need your own towels Signs are almost all in French Not all areas accessible for kids Lots of silent areas (all saunas, relaxation rooms etc.) Most areas are mixed gender. Some are not.
Conclusion: definitely go if you are in the area. Unless perhaps you have little kids you need to keep under...
