We stopped here for a drink and a slice of pie after an epic hike along the Morteratsch Glacier. We saw many other wonderful dishes coming out of the kitchen, as well. Vastly exceeded our expectations. Server was friendly and helpful. Views are stunning. Bucket list stuff . . . Put this hike and this hut at the top of your itinerary for a summer visit to the Engadine. Trailhead is just outside a train station. Challenging hike, so read...

I friendly asked if the barkeeper could refill my water bottle (just 1 liter). That it is gonna cost some money, okay. But asking 10 CHF which is 11 euro for 1 liter of water is just ridiculous, even though the location of the cabin is in the middle of nowhere. When I said that I don't need water for such high prizes the barkeeper became irritated and during my short visit he hadn't said any positive word at all. So I...

In Morteratsch beginnt man den Aufstieg zur Bovalhütte. Vom Gletscherhotel aus spaziert man zunächst auf dem breiten Kiesweg in Richtung Gletscher. Nach wenigen Schritten steigt man auf einen Bergweg zur bewaldeten Chünetta-Kuppe hinauf.Hier genießt man die letzten Bäume-stämmige Arven, dahinter die gleißende Gletscherpracht des Piz Palü .Der Rest der Wanderung verläuft über der Baumgrenze. Man folgt nun dem leicht ansteigenden Weg der Seitenmoräne des Vadret da Morteratsch. Im Frühsommer säumen tausende blühender Alpenrosen den Weg. Immer wieder überquert man glucksende Bergbächlein, die den Weg kreuzen. Man bleibt auch stehen, um den Tiefblick zum Gletscher, den Fernblick zu den erhabenen Gipfeln, die Traumziele von so vielen Bergsteigern , zu genießen.! Weiter gehts über Sur Semda Boval und Charmin nach Süden. Ein letzter steiler Aufstieg bringt uns nach zwei Stunden Wanderzeit hinauf zur Bovalhütte. Auf der Terrasse genießt man dann die faszinierende Panoramasicht auf die gigantischen Gletscher und Berge...Ein...

Il rifugio si raggiunge dopo circa 3 ore di cammino, partendo dalla stazione del trenino rosso di Morteratsch. Un ampio parcheggio (a pagamento) si trova poco prima della stazione stessa. Il sentiero, ben segnalato, sale dapprima in mezzo al bosco per poi proseguire, senza particolari difficoltà, regalando un panorama mozzafiato sul ghiacciaio di Morteratsch. Alcuni punti, leggermente esposti, sono equipaggiati con le corde che agevolano il passaggio. Il tragitto non presenta comunque passaggi pericolosi. Il rifugio si trova proprio di fronte al ghiacciaio del Morteratsch e da lì si può ammirare il gruppo del Bernina e le vette che confinano con la Valmalenco. Prezzi delle consumazioni adeguate a un rifugio di alta montagna in Svizzera.
