Château de Porrentruy – A Hidden Gem in the Jura Region

I visited Château de Porrentruy today and it was an unexpectedly delightful experience! Nestled in the charming town of Porrentruy, this historic castle offers a rich dive into the region's medieval past, complete with scenic views and fascinating exhibits.

Highlights of the Visit:

Model of the Castle: One of the most intriguing parts was the detailed scale model of the entire castle complex (see photo). It's displayed in a glass case inside the museum section and really helps you visualize how the castle looked in its prime. The craftsmanship is impressive and a must-see for history or architecture enthusiasts.

Interior Exhibit: There's a small but well-organized exhibition room featuring historical images and reconstructions (see photo of the digital display in the arched room). It gives a good sense of the castle’s layout and evolution over time.

Exterior & Surroundings: The castle grounds are peaceful and beautifully preserved. The building labeled Palais de Justice (see photo) stands just next to the entrance. The cobblestone courtyard and classic Jura architecture give it a very cinematic, timeless charm.

Good to Know:

Entry is free or very affordable.

Not overly crowded, making it perfect for a relaxed visit.

Most signs are in French and German, so a little background research or a translation app helps.

Great spot for photographers and history lovers.

Location Tip: Search for "Château de Porrentruy" on Google Maps — it's accurately pinned and easy to find. Plenty of parking nearby and the old town around it is also...

Beautiful castle int he beginning of the trans Swiss trail in the Jura region. We did not enter and saw it from the outside but still worth the stroll. It has a toilet inside too which is available to the public...

Very nice. You can take the stairs and an elevator, thereafter, the stairs go the tower, and again more stairs to get to the top. Beautiful view. I did not read much abour it, but you can always Google it....
