Vitromusée Romont, Musée suisse du vitrail et des arts du verre — Attraction in Romont (FR)

Little did I know that the day I had chosen to visit this beautiful museum was the second day of the 2025 Vitro festival. Masses of visitors had come this beautiful Mother's day Sunday for the fair with stands presenting their products or services, all around glass. Many visitors spilled over to the museum and made any contemplative activity impossible. There is a permanent exhibition and added to this presentation of glass artists showing their works. Take a look at the photos of some of the temporarily displayed artworks. In the museum shop you can find both gifts and interesting literature. Not surprisingly, I returned back home with a book on glass in Architecture edited by the museum. Un avis partagé sur ce musée. Le nom «Vitromusée» est si ridicule que j'ai hésité à le visiter.

Quelques belles mises en valeur de techniques (notamment les vitraux américaines), de beaux vitraux (notamment de Yoki, artiste du lieu). Un Chagall sans grand intérêt.

Cette visite rappelle cruellement que les vitraux doivent se voir dans les lieux pour lesquels ils sont conçus. L'éclairage sur fond blanc ne remplacera jamais la variété des lumières naturelles.

Le musée n'est pas sans intérêt, mais frustrant.

À Romont, les visites de l'abbaye de la Fille-Dieu et la collégiale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption rendent mieux justice à l'art de vitrail que...
