Château de Saint-Maurice — Attraction in Saint-Maurice

The day I visited was closed even thou on Google maps said it was open . Since I love visiting old monuments and places of history ,passing by and visiting the Chateau was a must ,it looked so great !

For what I was able to find out about info about this castle (as I thought it was a fortress )is it hasn't been lucky with time being burned and rebuild and now serving as museum and a tourist attraction .

It's one of those places that could be called a haunted castles because it served as orphanage ,asylum , prison and military lodging !

Through the path by the road it will also give you access to kinda small hiking path that lead to the restaurant ,waterfall and cave of saint Maurice with beautiful views but unfortunately when I went there everything was closed .

While those where closed you can still go around the castle and walk through , then up the hiking path and look at the waterfall .

I don't advise people in wheelchairs to go on the path or around the castle ,hiking path can be difficult and around the castle it's all old stone road .

Parking space is only possible ,on the city close to the castle or on the side of the road where...

Beautiful castle in a very nice scenery. Visit it ONLY when there is a temporary exhibition (like the past "Schtroumphs" one) as the historical part is unfortunately almost inexistant. It is worth the 15 minutes walk from St-Maurice train station. Beware that the disappointing nearby "Grotte aux fées" has nothing to do with the castle and take some time to walk around it and to the historical...

This castle is worth mostly for its temporary exhibitions. These can be incredibly well done, as the one on “Alice in wonderland”. Unfortunately, the one taking stage until end of November 2020, “Pinocchio” is a bit lacking. Some drawings, some books, a few toys, and that’s it.
