An Unforgettable Ascent to the Reichenbach Falls My recent trip to the Reichenbach Falls was absolutely breathtaking, a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Getting there is an adventure in itself. The historic Reichenbachfall-Bahn funicular is an engineering marvel, a charming piece of history that slowly pulls you up the steep incline. The ride is slow enough to let you take in the stunning views of the valley below, building anticipation for what awaits at the top. The moment you step off the funicular, you're greeted by the powerful roar of the falls. The spray-misted air and the thunderous sound immediately make you feel a deep connection to this legendary location. While the falls are incredibly impressive on their own, the real magic lies in their connection to Sherlock Holmes. This isn't just a beautiful waterfall; it's the very spot where the great detective supposedly met his end in a final, dramatic confrontation with his nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Following the trail markers up to the lookout points is a must. Each turn offers a new perspective, a different angle from which to admire the sheer force and scale of the water cascading down. The final lookout, marked with a plaque commemorating the fictional duel, gives you an almost dizzying view of the falls. I could easily imagine Holmes and Moriarty in a desperate struggle on the precipice. If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, this is a pilgrimage you have to make. But even if you don't know the first thing about the detective, the Reichenbach Falls are a stunning natural spectacle that will leave you in awe. It's more than just a tourist attraction; it's a sensory experience that combines thrilling history with the raw, untamed beauty of nature. My advice? Go, experience the roar, feel the mist on your face, and get lost...
Read moreMe and friend went to visit the museum down on Meiringen, and we got a flyer where it mentioned the place where sherlock holmes, died so we packed our stuff and went to the place where the waterfall is.
The name of the street where the rail is, is"hausenstrasse 34" in meiringen, the rail will take to a point where you can see the waterfall, when you look to the other side, you can see a star, near it is a plake with info about sherlock holmes' last enconuter with professor moriaty, to get there you have to go on a walk that is around 15 minutes! Its very easy to find
About the other way,on foot from "hausenstrasse 34" you have to go right to the road that curves up, from there you will find a way that is made or kinda rounded rocks, just follow this path and eventually you will arrive, to the side where the star is, it has a gorgeous view over the waterfall!
The railway is great for everyone including wheelchairs, the "wanderweg"path is not possible for wheelchairs, and please... We saw at that day a old lady with her family, and she looked like very distressed, so please take great care before heading in...

Tickets to the furnicular can be purchased as combo with the Aare gorge or directly at the furnicular station/furnicular attendant before boarding. We purchased the combo ticket and took the furnicular to go up. The view from the furnicular is great if you are seated facing uphill. It is a short ride and the wait time for the furnicular is not too long. As you get off the furnicular you walk out of the bahn/station to see and feel the power of mother nature. There is a hiking trail that goes up and leads to a bridge that crosses the fall. The trail goes further up and connects to the trail to go down. This trail has to two routes with one going down to Meirengen and then a second to a nice view of the waterfall before heading through forests, farms and then to the start. The trail takes a total of 1 hour and in some places a bit slippery and slightly steep. With good shoes and common sense it's a trail...
