Relativ grosses, nicht schwieriges Gelände mit Freibeeten und Schauräumen. Ansprechende Sammlung von einheimischen Pflanzen und Exoten. Gut beschriftet. Eignet sich auch für Spaziergänge und Rollstuhlfahrer. Abbildung des Sonnensystems zum Ablaufen, die eine Vorstellung der verhälnismässigen Distanzen zwischen den Himmelskörpern und deren Grösse vermittelt.

Der botanische Garten St. Gallen ist zu jeder Jahreszeit einen Besuch wert. Aktuell, Mitte Februare, stehen die Kamelien in voller Blüte - gefüllte und ungefüllte, weisse, rosa- und magentafarbene, Riesenbüsche, vieljährig, in hölzernen Pflanzenbottichen. Sie wurden zum Überwintern in die Orangerie gebracht, eine grosse Tenne, und wenn die Aussentemperaturen angenehm sind, steht ein Tor weit offen. Bei Temperaturen um den Nullpunkt oder tiefer hingegen ist die Orangerie geschlossen.

Die Orangerie beherbergt unter anderem auch Citrusbüsche und -bäume - wie könnte es anders sein - und ein betäubender Duft lockt zur Zeit den/ie Besucher/in. Gerade während der Kamelienblüte fällt auf, wieviel Sorgfalt und Pflege ein Pflanzenparadies wie der botanische Garten Tag für Tag benötigt.

In den Gewächshäusern stechen zur Zeit die Kakaobäume mit ihren grünen, gelben und roten "Beeren" hervor. Auch die Pfeffersträucher sind übersät mit kleinen Schoten, die im Gaumen eine unmittelbare Erinnerung an die würzige Schärfe von Cayenne hervorrufen.

Zum Probieren sind diese Früchte im Botanischen Garten selbstverständlich nicht. Wir wollen ja die Pflanzen nicht beschädigen. Es geht um die Anschauung und um's Lernen - und darum, dass möglichst viele Besucher/innen ungetrübte Freude an der Vielfalt der einheimischen und exotischen Pflanzen...

I usually always visit the botanic gardens when I'm in a new city but it never came to my mind to search for one so close to where I life. Definitely on the same level as the botanic gardens of other cities even much bigger ones.

A true jem in the city. Wide variety of plants, bushes and trees from all over the world. You can walk around for several hours here and enjoy the beauty. Only bad point, the labels are small so you need to search them diligently so that you read. All in all, a free to enter must-see
