After the surprisingly strenuous hike up Uetliberg, reaching the base of the Aussichtsturm (observation tower) feels like arriving at the final checkpoint. There's a small fee of 2 CHF to ascend the final set of stairs to the very top, payable by contactless card at the turnstile. Some might hesitate at paying after such a long trek, but it is, without a doubt, the best two francs you could spend in all of Zürich.
The moment you step out onto the top platform, any lingering fatigue from the climb vanishes. The view transforms from the beautiful but obstructed glimpses you saw on the trail into a truly magnificent and uninterrupted 360-degree panorama.
Facing one way, you see the entirety of Lake Zürich stretching out into the horizon, its deep blue waters flanked by the dense, sprawling city. Turn around, and the landscape shifts dramatically to rolling green hills, charming villages tucked into valleys, and vast tracts of forest that seem to go on forever. On a clear day, the distant silhouette of the Alps rims the horizon, adding another layer of majesty to the scene.
It’s a breathtaking perspective that puts the entire region into context. You truly feel like you're on top of the world, and that small entrance fee is a tiny price to pay for such an expansive, all-encompassing view. It's the proper and deserved finale to the...
Read moreIf you happen to be a fan of observation towers, this is THE tower to explore when visiting Zurich. Good to know: (1) As of this writing, the cost to climb the tower is 2 CHF; (2) There is a self service machine at a lower level gate that accepts coins or plastic cards; (3) There is no elevator -- the entire climb is via stairs only; (4) Visit the tower using the S-Bahn network with trains from various Zurich locations running about every 30 minutes to and from the Uetliberg station; (5) There is a hotel, restaurant and a park with picnic tables adjacent to the tower. This three-leg tower provides some excellent views of the city and countryside. Two cautions: (1) The self-service kiosk used to open the gate is buggy and the language selector was problematic... which made it tricky to navigate; (2) The stairway is narrow and the observation deck is a bit small, so it can be quite crowded. Overall, I would recommend this unique...
Read moreThe view from the Top of Zurich is so beautiful that it is very difficult to explain. The Uetliberg Lookout can be reached either by Train or car/ vehicle or by foot also. Trains are available from Zurich HB every half an hour. Once you reach the Uetliberg station, there is walk of 10 minutes to the top. Enroute, just soak up the beauty of valley beyond and listen to the songs of birds. Once you reach the top there is a Restaurant, a viewing Garden and a very tall viewing platform (which is visible from Zürich.) . From the Garden itself you can have the most beautiful views of Zuricher See and the city subject to clear weather otherwise you feel you are floating on the clouds. If you are fit enough then you can climb on the lookout tower or you can also take several well marked walks/ trails available ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours. It is a paradise far away from the maddening crowds and from the hustle bustle of the city...
