We wanted to check out a new sauna, which wasn't too far from Basel. 51CHF for a day pass to the spa, sauna and pools was a great price (38CHF for sauna and pool). The spa was lovely - towels and dressing gown included, alongside lemon water and tea. We went on a Friday morning and pretty much had the place to ourselves. I particularly enjoyed the salt scrub and the outside bathing area.
The sauna area, although numbers of how many people were allowed in each section, got incredibly busy as the day wore on and we had to leave the steam room as, although there was a limit of 5 people allowed, 2 extra people entered and so it again became too busy. The panorama sauna had a nice view and the fire sauna, in the cellar, was also special. Unfortunately, we didn't check out the other saunas because there were just too many people around but I'm sure if you go on a less busy day, it's a pretty special place to visit. You need to take your own towels for the sauna and we weren't quite sure if we could have just used the towels and dressing gowns from the spa (should have asked, really). Also, the outside area of the sauna was very limited - there aren't many beds, nor is there much space for lying on the ground; however, there was plenty of space in the relaxing room upstairs.
Unfortunately, the food was not so tasty. I ordered a käsewähe, which was still cold in the middle after being heated, and, other than salad and crisps, there weren't any gluten free options (my partner is coeliac and we were there for the day and so it would be good to have these options available for allergy sufferers).
I'm sure we'll return for another spa day but we'll just be more...
Read moreNice clean spa. Definitely go for the option which includes both the pools and the sauna. Note the sauna circuit is nude. There are 4-5 different saunas and definitely worth it. I suggest doing the pool circuit first, then the saunas and thereafter hitting up the nap/quiet room post-sauna.
This facility wasn't too crowded when I went on a rainy Saturday. The poor weather outside made their outdoor bath even more enjoyable.
I wish there was most explanation upon entry (for someone who declared it their first time there). You don't need to "pay" a deposit or pay for a locker, if you go further into the change rooms full length lockers are available for use. I wish there were larger volume cups for water on the sauna circuit. The saunas are quite spread out, and there is only one place where you can hydrate and the cups are quite small volume and the offerings for refreshing snacks were slim in...
Read moreIf you want to escape the daily challenges and troubles just for a couple of hours, this is the place for you! The price is reasonable and for it you get to soak up all the energy that your body needs to keep up with daily life. And both spa and the solbad are equally relaxing. Whichever you decide to do, you will enjoy it. Or you don't have to decide at all and pay for a spa entrance which includes the solbad. If you go to the spa there's a quiet room where you can sleep or just lie down quietly to gather your thoughts and let go of them. After that enjoy a nicely rehydrating tea. And when you leave you'll see that a couple of hours have passed without you noticing or caring about time itself. That's something very valuable. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do every time. You deserve a little bit of wellness...
