An amazing experience and probably amongst my top 3 experiences in Switzerland till date. If you are not afraid of slightly cramped spaces and subterranean tunnels, you will be awed by the Vallorbe Grotte. You see basically everything related to caving with stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, caverns, underground ponds, lakes and rivers. You will walk through the largest subterranean river in central Europe! And the final light and sound show at the 'Cathedral' was wow. Read moreReally incredible formations of many different kinds. A truly remarkable cave system which is still being discovered. Unfortunately, the exhibit is overly commercialized, with visible damage to the structures in a few places. Even in Eastern Europe and America, I have not seen such disrespect for such ancient structures.
There is a digital app for all the information, but it is more annoying than it is useful, since the scanning is difficult in low light, and the information provided is sparse.
The gift shop is just a standard gift shop for rocks, without a single item unique to these caves available...
Read moreIncredible Mother Earth =) 26 July 2018 Nice Cave system, It changed in 9 years, new Beige color layer covering some areas, that previously had growing green algae like little forest =) Rivers run inside the cave, it is Cold inside 10 degree, bring a jaket, wear good none slip shoes. if coming by train to Vallorbe and do not want to walk for 30 minutes, arrange for taxi pickup from the train station, and book the return ahead of time 2-3 hours after. This trip is nice on a hot day, Go cool down =) @ the End of the cave, there is a cavity that can fit a 10 floor building =) A wow place. Incredible...
