Lots of things to discover in this Science Center. Here you can experience the physical, (electro-)mechanical, chemical interactions by yourself. Multi-language guides are there for a detailed explanation. Be there very early, this place is huge, multi-story and you’ll easily spend a whole day exploring around. Our 2 year old being exposed and accustomed to other science museums before, was amazed by the place. So we decided to come back again next year. A note to first timers with kids: at the entrance level, there is a huge lockers section to lock the stroller and other bits and pieces you most probably might be carrying around. Be sure to have some coins of 2 CHF, as the locker mechanism is working like the shopping carts that you’re inserting a coin to unlock. A second note: The place itself is a bit out of the city, like half an hour train ride away from the downtown. If you end up buying train tickets online to come here, be sure to check the transportation website if the Science Center entrance ticket promotion is still valid. In our time of visit it was valid and we saved approx. 20% by buying the both way train tickets and the entrance tickets to the Science Center and we easily validated them at the entrance level...
Read moreIt's a really amazing place. And so huge! I went here on a school trip and I am so grateful to my teachers for organising it for us because we got to see all sorts of different physics/chemistry phenomena up close and we were allowed to touch everything (which is rare for a museum), which, considering how formidable science really is, was a big privilege.
Being able to touch everything there and make things happen on your command made the physical/chemical reactions that they demonstrated seem much less "hypothetical" and "distant", it just made them seem so commonplace, so much more real, if you can imagine what I mean. Especially the shows they put on had this effect.
We saw two shows while we were there and one of them was actually very impressive; we watched someone get struck by up to 2 million volts (with only a metal suit on! ). Not only that but you had the opportunity to do it yourself after the show too! I did it and I really had my life in my hands. It was incredible to get struck by lightning and live.
I would recommend absolutely anyone to come here, if they like science. Some of my classmates who don't like science said they found it pretty boring. But I liked...
Read moreWe ended up here after canceling outdoor plans due to rain. Like almost all experiences in Switzerland - this is a little costly, but I steal highly recommend it! We spent 0ver 5 hours there with an 11 year old and a 15 year old. Seeing all the todlers around, at first I thought this was not up the level for our family visit. Boy, did I get it wrong! We all could not get our hands, eyes, minds, off the hundreds of exhibits (teenagers and adults alike). In our 5 hours here, we did not get to see all exhibits, and we skipped a show because it was in German (that we do not understand). (BTW, the exhibits are all with 4 languages explanation cards and pictures that demonstrate what you should be doing in each exhibit). If you come here with a curious child or you are one... plan at least half a day for this. Oh, and one more thing - The Technorama offers a buffet style restaurant, in reasonable prices, and with family meals in mind. Although you can bring your own food/drinks and eat at the tables in/out the restaurant...
