This is probably the best place at Zhushan to view the sunrise and sea of clouds.
It’s a bit of a walk from the Zhushan train station, but it’s well worth it! We were lucky and managed to see a wonderful 雲海 (sea of clouds). We didn’t manage to see the sunrise though, because it was too cloudy.
It’s a little crowded when we reached at around 6-7am, but the crowd subsided by around 8am. It’s worth going to the tea house nearby for a cup of tea after viewing the sunrise, then coming back again to view the 雲海 once more without the crowd.

Read moreif you want the true sunrise experience, aim to reach here by first light, not by sunrise. do not bother with the train that takes you to duigaoye. you won’t be able to reach in time even if you catch the very first train. leave your hotel by 3/4am and enjoy a slow hike up to the viewing platform (the incline at some points can be very steep but all smooth roads). If the open hexagonal deck is crowded, follow the gravel path down to a quieter (and better [imo]) viewing deck to enjoy the sunrise in isolation away...
Read moreOK but NOT amazing. I think people like to exaggerate how amazing something is if it takes a lot of effort/cost/inconvenience to get there. This place is nice, but you will go once and not go again probably. The mountains in the whole area are really beautiful but the sunrise "event" itself is quite underwhelming. Skip the pain of a basic hotel, 5am start, packed uncomfortable 20 min train ride with standing room only, 20 or 30 mins walking, freezing cold with frost on the ground and just go in...
