This is one of the poorer quality night markets I've been to in Taiwan. I believe it's because of the tourist element that it lacks any authenticity or stand out quality. You will walk past stall after stall of standard priced mid food and games. You will see people walking around chewing and spitting betel nut. And the gross escalation of Taiwan's drinking culture from practically nothing to every second drinking stall in kenting being called 'LETS GET DRUNK!' is sickeningly abrupt. You will see the big breasted ladies and the bear chested men pumping the most horrendous music and calling for you to drink an overpriced beverage over liquored and overly sweet cocktail. It sucks. It was interesting to see some Taiwan western fusion. But the food we tried was mid and we were desperate for the calm order, consistency and reliability of 7/11 on our way back to our overpriced tiny acom. This town and it's night market could be missed. Unless you are in fact into the idea of Pattaya-light...
Read moreFun night market. It had a fair amount of options to eat. It had enough people around to make it fun, but not so many to be obnoxious. Food tasted good. There are three 7-11s there, along with a Watsons and a Cosmed. Lots of food stalls as well as real restaurants.
This night market isn't like most. It is just the main street in Kending that turns into a night market at night. So you can still get a fair bit of traffic flowing through, so be mindful of little kids.
One thing that I found pretty unique was that there were huge garbage cans every so often on both sides of the road. There are also public restrooms. I haven't really seen those at the other half a dozen markets I've been to.
Not a lot of night options in Kending, so this is worth it.
There are also a lot of bars and bar stands, which I don't care for since I don't drink. But they weren't...
Read moreLively atmosphere, some venders are really tasty, some not so much, you be the judge. Loop around the market and fuel up as you get your steps in. Stop by one of the friendliest archery stands, located right outside the public bathrooms. Normally 5 arrows for 100, but I've been forgoing the prize and challenging the boss, who'd give me extra arrows to hit the targets. Next, drop by an airsoft stand, 15 shots for 100, same deal, forgo the prize and get 20 instead. Dual wield for an extra challenge! Get some body art, last 5 days before the temporary tattoo wears off. Price depends on size, full forearm was 500. Burn off those calories, eat, drink and be merry! Befriend a bartender and he'd treat you right. Open 7 nights a week, rain or shine, popular nights are Friday...
