Liyu (Carp) Lake is in the central-mountain foothills southwest of Hualien City. About 104 hectares in area, this is the largest lake in eastern Taiwan. There is a plethora of tourist facilities and recreation options at the lake and a visitor centre and pedal-boat, canoe, motorboat (with driver), and bicycle rentals. It has a 4km ring road that offers pleasant walking/cycling routes, camping/picnic areas, easy-challenge trails into the hills, and open-air local-style restaurants at which lake shrimp is the favoured delicacy.

Beautiful place. Quite far from the train station. It takes an hour by public bus. You can also rent a taxi for NT 500 and it takes 30 minutes to reach. The bus frequency is limited and it starts getting dark by 5.30 pm...plan accordingly... A kind aunty in the opposite restaurant helped us book a taxi on our way back.. the people are very nice.

Nice lake with a mountain view. Rented a peddle boat onto the lake but the only problem is the motor boat rental which keeps cutting across the waters making waves. Rental of peddle boat is approximately NTD 200 per hour for 2 seater, NTD 600 per hour for 6 seater & NTD 600 for one roind of motor boat ride around the lake.

A good One. But not as good as Good like Sun Moon Lake, but still worth a visit. You can hire Boat with paddles as well battery operated. Diesel boats are also available. You can also hire a bicycle and can do round about the lake. Lake Length is 1.6 Km and width 960 meters.But No 7~11 Or Family Mart at this lake. Prefer diesel boat with Driver and a quick tour of the lake. Review for Toilets are not good, but we found satisfactory cleaned. Overall a...

Loved this stop on my guided tour of Hualien. I recommend Tonny Teng, he is a strong English speaker and took me here as well as main highlights of Taroko National Park.
