A historical garden built by a genera Lin back in 1871 during the Qing dynasty. It is located in Tanzi area, Taichung and was one of the top 10 mansion in Taiwan. It took nine years to finish the building and you can find a lot of brick carving on the window and doors. If you want to know more about this mansion, free guided tour is offered by some local high school students and I think you can understand more on the history and development of this ancient mansion. You can spend 1 hour in this garden or more if you want to try the Chinese restaurants located inside the garden.

保存完整台中市民優惠票50元一般民眾 100元。門票可折抵裡面消費門票費用用來修復保養古蹟跟環境清潔維護免費停車摘星山莊，為台灣十大民宅之首，由清昭勇將軍林其中於清同治十年(1871)起興建，至清光緒五年(1879)完工，有「有其中富，無一其中厝：有其中厝，無一其中富。」之諺形容摘星山莊無處不雕、無處不書、無處不畫的華麗建築。在現存的臺灣傳統民居建築中，摘星山莊可說是一座保存完整，形制宏偉、且頗具研究價值的古厝，尤其在磚雕、石雕、交趾陶、泥塑、大木結構、裝飾彩繪及防禦體系上，都有相當精緻的表現，而被譽為當今臺灣傳統民居的典範。摘星山莊主要係由前埕、前廳、正廳、左右護龍、左右外護龍與左右外外護龍等空間組成，在主體建築的東南有獨立的門樓一座，門楣上以鑲深藍色字交趾陶燒門匾一方，額題：「摘星山莊」四個大字。另在門廳之前有一半月形的池塘，池水來自基地後方，並與建築物的引水道及飲水系統相連，形成有排水功能，兼具養魚、防火、灌溉與風水等作用的設施。主體建築分兩進，第一進是全建築中最為精美的部分。入口上方有一「文魁」匾，在中門左右則有「八仙帶騎」、「加冠錦上花」及「琴棋書畫」等交趾陶牆堵，另室內雕飾繁複的抬樑結構、原樣保存的彩繪和深淺合宜的雕飾，將大木結構的機能與裝飾的美感，發揮得淋漓盡致。。第二進正廳內供奉林氏祖先神位，入口的額枋上，懸有中式第二百○一名的林文炳所立「進士」匾一方。檐廊上的五爪瓜柱三疊斗及隨樑上細膩的雕刻，道出了雙喜臨門、祈求吉慶、富貴如意的吉祥意涵。另摘星山莊的外牆多用斗砌土墼磚砌成，磚色紅潤優美，質地堅硬鏗然，牆面丁順隅角及眠磚直交接頭，都用各式榫接及陰線雕飾，分佈之多，組合之美，堪稱全臺民居之冠。而利用紅磚丁順砌成的山牆面與山門，構成高低有致的變化，不僅美化了建築的天際線，也延展了空間橫向佈局的規模。民國86年，這座風格獨具，堪稱中部傳統民居表率的建築，在地主賣給建商後面臨拆除的命運，造成前廳右角間、內護龍前間、右山門、右外護龍等空間，均遭人為的嚴重破壞。幸經有心人士、中央、省及臺中縣政府的奔波及努力，及時於民國86年12月26日由當時臺中縣政府公告指定為縣定古蹟，才阻止了更進一步的破壞。本文摘錄自楊仁江建築師事務所《臺中縣縣定古蹟摘星山莊整體修復工程委託調查研究》
