The mangrove forests on both sides of the waterways grow together towards the center, intertwining to form a dense semi-dome of green shrubbery, stacking layer upon layer to create a deep corridor, not knowing the end and appearing mysterious, thus giving the Sicao Green Tunnel its moniker “Little Amazon”. Tourists from home and abroad come in droves, waiting in line to get on the raft that leads to this green wonderland. The sightseeing rafts rock gently with the ripples, the breeze caressing the visitors’ cheeks, carrying the weight of the warmth of the sunlight, as the rafts shuttle through this city's secret green realm.
Push forward to the end, into the deep realms of this enchanting mangrove, and unveil the final highlight of the journey. The calm waters of Sicao Green Tunnel reflect another world of mangroves. Nature inadvertently reveals a world where the real and mirror reflections create a visual spectacle that looks like a “lip”. Some people call it the Angel's Kiss, while others call it the Green Eye. What we know is that it is a precious gift from the Sicao Green Wonderland to visitors.

Read moreProbably the biggest tourist trap we fell for while in Taiwan. Entry is 200NTD per adult for a 30 min boat ride through the tunnel. We had the luck of not having to wait in the waiting room because a boat was just about to leave, but prepare to wait until there are enough people to fill a boat before you can leave. This can take up to 1h30. The most fun thing on the trip is that you get colorful hats to wear. During the boat ride, someone will give you information about the mangrove growth and will point out the little crabs and fish you can see along the way. They do this through a tinny loudspeaker that sounds horrible and destroys any peace and enjoyment you might have of the natural environment. You can hardly see the mangrove tunnel because it's obstructed by everyone's hats in front of you. The tunnel itself is semi-articial, being held up by ropes and struts in the water. This is 100% not worth your time or money. The only upside of this outing is that we got to visit the beautiful temple next to the Sicao green tunnel, visited the free sperm whale exhibit, and got to drive through some nice mangrove surroundings on...
Read moreLike other reviewers have pointed out, there are 2 different routes the boats can take you. The green is shorter and the yellow is longer. I took the yellow route which was kind of nice. You get into a boat with a lot of people and ride around the river looking at places where fishers catch crabs, oysters, and fish. You also get to ride through some wildlife preserves trying to catch a glimpse of herons and egrets. The tour guides only speak Chinese, but they do a good job pointing things out. It was pretty relaxing, but honestly, I didn't really get to see much. If you're really into ecological and wildlife stuff, you might enjoy it more. The nice thing, is that the ticketing, waiting area is near a big temple and food stands. This is good, because you might have a wait awhile before getting to go on a ride. Our group was running late, so our 1:00 trip had to be canceled and we ended up getting a 3:30(?) tour. There was a lot of waiting around but it went by quickly due to the attractions close by and...
