If you are a foreigner, this place has almost no English (or any other language) signs. What little English is used in the signs are all worse than Google translate. It's a government-operated site, so they are only open till 5 PM. The only reason we go regularly is because their grass is pristine and our dog loves to use it as his bathroom. If not for the dog, why the hell would anyone want to climb all those stairs just to look at a torii gate? Seriously, people.. and it's Japanese.. not even Taiwanese. You won't be able to bring your dog in the torii gate, but the outside court has plenty of good grass. It's much cleaner and well kempt than any of the nearby parks. When I got there I was able to try the matcha pudding from one of the shops in there, it was delicious. However the shop closes at 5pm, so be sure to get there before that time.
