Bongoyo Island — Attraction in Dar es-Salaam

People who need a break from these polluted cities and need to relax are welcome to this island. Very calm and silent. Ocean waves fully blue surrounded. Best place for kids. The beach is not so deep. Kids can enjoy without parents monitoring.

Important note : There are not many shops or bad. Better pack all the food and drinks before you go to the island. You can carry whatever you want don't think you can get there.

No alcohol drinks are available there . Only few that are 3 time Dar price. Better to buy everything before you leave. To save money.

Pricing : I have added the price sheet for boat and government fee. It cost 30 k for boat two way . And aprox 25 k for government fee. Total 55k for the total trip.

Traveling time: The boat start from Slip way. Medium size boat with 20 people capacity. At least 3 peoples need to start else you will move to next boat. It take 30 min approx good boat journey to see some beautiful sea.

If you are in Dar and looking for a day trip on the beach then Bongoyo would be one of the choices to go to. You can take a boat shuttle from Slipway and it is a short boat ride to the island. There are a number of boats going back and forth from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The ride back during sunset hour is beautiful. I highly recommend it! It does get REALLY crowded during the weekends especially on Sundays and because of that it does get a lot of trash from the beachgoers. There is a fee to pay when you get on the island and further fees to use the facilities such as the thatched umbrellas and wicker beds. There is also a small restaurant but I would advice you should you want a meal to order your food early. You can also bring your own snacks to the island which is allowed. Overall Bongoyo is a really nice place to snorkel and you can see beautiful fish so bring snorkels! The beach is also nice with white sand. But the island is just not managed well and people who go do not treat it well....

Lovely little island, very peaceful. Beautiful clean beach/water. Would highly recommended going for a nice chill day where you can relax/sunbathe/swim. 30 min boat ride from slipway (walk past all the restaurants and the office is on the right). Boat left at 9:30am, only 7 of us on the boat/island all day. 30,000 tsh for the boat, $17.70 entry onto the island which I think is a bit steep but hey. 10,000 for sunbed.
