Read moreNightmare at Mwemba. Even thought our experience is certainly not a usual situation I would like to share it with the community so that anyone can avoid this awful situation.
We booked a shared boat for 25€ each to go to Mwemba Island and 30 min past the start of the trip the engine broke. The crew (2 people) did not want to tell the other boats so they did not share our situation and tried to repair the motor. They did not throw the ankle until we told them and by then we were already deep sea with big waves, awful. They did not apeak english and did call 100 times but nobody came to rescue us just because nobody wanted to pay for that extra fuel! That how it works, they put your life in danger just because they have no insurance, no protocols, NOTHING. So after the longest 5 hours of our lives, we were waiting amidst the indic ocean without confirmation of a possible rescue.
Take care, always have the contact of your hotel ready and ask them for them to call the capitain to check on you....
The best part was at the end they didnt want to renfund us as they had spent their fuel plus the overcost of a rescue.
Hopefully this does not repeat again. You cannot teust the hotels because at the end they do not act...
Read moreJust went to the Mnemba Island, it was the roughest boat journey l have ever had. (and l have done a LOT of snorkeling.) They took us out regardless of the sea condition and l think we all suffered quite a bit on the way.
First try to chase Dolphin among many other boats, they are yelling and screaming to each other to try to find a spot. For snorkeling was not easy, especially if you are a beginners, since the sea has big wave and very choppy. There were some fishes, but its really not nearly as nice as is advertised. (obviously compare to all other snorkeling experience l have had.)
So tip is that if you asked about the trip the day before and they said they need to find out the sea condition after 16:00, chance is like our trip, one can still drive the boat but is nothing for enjoyment.
Price is ranging from US$20. pPerson till whatever they are able to squeeze out of you. (try the one in Nungwi beach "Union Beach" Reception.) seem like they offer the standard US$20. As for us it was not at all worth the money, since we suffered more than enjoyed . Make sure you check the weather yourself, don't trust just what they say! (which was...
