The view from the village is generally very good, offering panoramic vistas of Chiang Mai and the surrounding mountains. However, visibility can be affected by smoke and haze, especially during the dry season when agricultural burning and forest fires are more common.
The dry season in northern Thailand typically occurs from late February to April. During this time, smoke and haze from agricultural burning and forest fires can reduce visibility and affect air quality in the region, including at Doi Pui Viewpoint.
If you're concerned about smoke and haze affecting your visit, it's best to check the air quality and weather conditions before heading to the viewpoint. Generally, the months outside of the dry season, such as November to February, tend to have clearer skies and...
Read moreWe were a family group of five. Upon arriving in our songtao ( it's a pickup with the covered bed that has two bench seats in the back, very reasonable transportation, inexpensive for larger groups) we were approached by a little girl, this is common practice for them to lead you around the village, even at an age that don't speak English, and we hired her for an undisclosed amount ( I gave her a total of 140 Baht and told her to share it with her younger sister, who was very disappointed that she didn't have a job the same as her older sister). She led us around the first shop was her grandmother's shop with clothing, then we are led to her mother's shop which had nice trinkets of some sort I don't remember what they were, then she let us back to the almost very top of the village and there was a place where they will rent you costumes of their clothing and you can hire them to take pictures of you I'd rather inexpensive rate. After this we decided to end our trip because the older people with us were tired of walking uphill and we went downhill back to the opening of the village, stopping along the way to buy some juice and jewelry and wine and.. you name it they sell it. Overall is a normal experience of any tourist site in thailand. The people were all genuinely happy to see us, not just for the money, but it's nice to have people travel through if you were working the tourist industry. No price gouging that I could detect and I've lived in Thailand for 10 years. Rather decent quality for everything a very good selection of Thai silk. There were many Native costume shops where you could buy their clothing. I have to tell you I'm just sensitive towards the cultural appropriation thing. However my wife gets away with wearing Northern Thailand clothing and it looks really cute on her, of course, because she's Thai person. If you've not been to among Village definitely worth the trip it cost me, between rather limited purchases and the cost of the transportation, about $70 for a group of five. Yeah, sorry, no pictures from this trip, they're...
Read moreMaybe it has become a tourist stop with mostly booths selling the same items, but the drive alone is worth taking so you are already in the plus and aren't even there yet. Then there are very interesting sights and little adventures to go on such as the little waterfall village. Don't expect much from the waterfall park and you'll enjoy it, the stroll through flower fields on the way to the small waterfall with several snack stands and photo ops everyone. Try the black sticky rice, she cuts it into pieces with scissors and adds condensed milk on top for a seriously rich, chewy and sweet treat. On the way here there are many interesting places to stop coming up the mountain. There are scenic overlooks to pull off and see, Temple grounds and waterfalls to explore. There are more than you can or would want to do in one day so do some homework and pick a few that you are most interested in. Stop along the way and don't plan any stops on the way home. Just enjoy the ride basically coasting down the mountain to Chiang Mai (especially on a scooter). A bit of caution if you are driving yourself... At the top the road narrows to one lane it's exactly the width of one car. If you are on a scooter no problem you'll be at the top in half the time. If you are in a car driving yourself, know that you will need to honk before most turns to let any possible cars coming know you are there. If you meet a car, one will have to pullover somewhere to let the other pass in many areas. It's all relatively easy and doable but if you are the nervous type, you'll definitely be puckered...
