This one spot alone is worth the trip from Chiang Mai. Hidden gem full of carvings at temple-worthy master level.
First thing one sees is this "art gallery" on the right side of road, then a path leading towards a big golden elephant diety sculpture - all lines with already amazingly detailed and beautiful woodcarvings - then a tunnel leading to even more jaw-dropping carvings. We were given a tour by the boss himself who happened to be there, and his knowledge and passion for this craft is evident. The quality of the woodwork is matched by their prices, but fear not, they come in all size and prices. At the end of the long tour there is a general shop with pretty affordable souvenirs. The small, colorful, life-like elephant carvings are made of different types of wood to give them the variety.
Photography is not allowed inside where the really good stuff are.
