Read moreThe big hot pool is closed until June 2017 - the only options for getting in the water are individual hot baths in what look like fiberglass tract home bathtubs in little bungalows, or a long, winding, stone channel with hot water that people trail their feet in, under beautiful old shade trees and trellises covered with orchids. Several food and drink vendors are arranged around the foot-water channels, and multiple massage practitioners are busy with customers.
This area is fascinating, is there another like it? People sit eating their food and looking out at the flowers from their shady retreat, trailing their toes - it has a unique charm.
They provide bamboo baskets with eggs in them, and people make their kchai thom [hard boiled eggs] right in the boiling pool on the rise in the sun - the most original of all the souvenirs offered in the scads of stands up by the main path.
The grounds are gorgeous, filled with blooming semi-formal flower beds and trimmed grass - bring sun protection [umbrella] if you want to walk around the gardens, sculptures and fountains. The humidity and heat are intense, with all the wet grass and flowers.
Up by the hot pool - about 10 x 6 m [30' x 18'] are bungalows that apparently have the bathtubs. They also have separate women's and men's group baths. Everything costs a little bite more - including parking.
The restaurant looks really nice, I might have had lunch there - if I could have gotten into the water first...
Read moreWe were a group of 8 adults and one child when we visited this location the other day. Since it was holidays in Chiangmai, the place was packed with people. You have a choice of parking outside and walking into the park or pay 40 Baht for taking the car into the park and parking. If you park outside, it is just a few minutes walk to the parking area inside the park. If the parking outside is full, then it becomes convenient to pay 40 Baht and park inside as there is plenty of parking space inside the park. What we saw was a lot of families packing a picnic basket and enjoying themselves near the hot spring stream and adjacent areas. Maybe because of this, the choice of food is very limited in the food stalls inside the park. There is a Thai restaurant within the entrance of the park. We did not visit the place, so not sure if there was a good variety of food items at this place. Pizza and papaya salad appears to be the most popular items for sale within the park and also roasted chicken. Beer is available and a reasonable choice of fruit juices and smoothies were also available inside. Outside the gate there are several food stalls and looks like a multiple choice of food items are available in these stalls. The restrooms inside the park were noted to be reasonably clean. There is an entrance fee of 100 Baht per adult and 50 Baht for child. it appears that there is a discount for...
