Mae Khachan District Hot Springs in Chiang Mai offers a soothing retreat in the heart of nature, just 36 kilometers from the city. Located at 1 Ban Sa Ha Khon, Mae On District, Chiang Mai 50130, Thailand, these hot springs are a beloved spot for locals and a hidden treasure for travelers seeking an authentic experience. Open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the springs provide a serene environment where you can unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The therapeutic waters, rich in minerals, make this a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

San Kamphaeng Hot Springs are not only about relaxation; they also offer a unique cultural experience. Two geysers on the site shoot water nearly 20 meters into the air, a fascinating sight that adds to the charm of the location. Visitors can also participate in the popular tradition of boiling eggs in the hot spring water—a fun and interactive way to engage with the local customs. The springs feature various amenities, including private soaking tubs, foot baths, and a mineral swimming pool, ensuring that every visitor can find their ideal way to enjoy the therapeutic waters.

Mae Khachan District Hot Springs is conveniently located near other attractions that make for a well-rounded day trip. After soaking in the hot springs, you can explore the nearby cafes, such as Baristro Asian Style in Chiang Mai, or take a short drive to visit the scenic Mae Kampong Village. The big hot pool is closed until June 2017 - the only options for getting in the water are individual hot baths in what look like fiberglass tract home bathtubs in little bungalows, or a long, winding, stone channel with hot water that people trail their feet in, under beautiful old shade trees and trellises covered with orchids. Several food and drink vendors are arranged around the foot-water channels, and multiple massage practitioners are busy with customers.

This area is fascinating, is there another like it? People sit eating their food and looking out at the flowers from their shady retreat, trailing their toes - it has a unique charm.

They provide bamboo baskets with eggs in them, and people make their kchai thom [hard boiled eggs] right in the boiling pool on the rise in the sun - the most original of all the souvenirs offered in the scads of stands up by the main path.

The grounds are gorgeous, filled with blooming semi-formal flower beds and trimmed grass - bring sun protection [umbrella] if you want to walk around the gardens, sculptures and fountains. The humidity and heat are intense, with all the wet grass and flowers.

Up by the hot pool - about 10 x 6 m [30' x 18'] are bungalows that apparently have the bathtubs. They also have separate women's and men's group baths. Everything costs a little bite more - including parking.

The restaurant looks really nice, I might have had lunch there - if I could have gotten into the water first...

We were a group of 8 adults and one child when we visited this location the other day. Since it was holidays in Chiangmai, the place was packed with people. You have a choice of parking outside and walking into the park or pay 40 Baht for taking the car into the park and parking. If you park outside, it is just a few minutes walk to the parking area inside the park. If the parking outside is full, then it becomes convenient to pay 40 Baht and park inside as there is plenty of parking space inside the park. What we saw was a lot of families packing a picnic basket and enjoying themselves near the hot spring stream and adjacent areas. Maybe because of this, the choice of food is very limited in the food stalls inside the park. There is a Thai restaurant within the entrance of the park. We did not visit the place, so not sure if there was a good variety of food items at this place. Pizza and papaya salad appears to be the most popular items for sale within the park and also roasted chicken. Beer is available and a reasonable choice of fruit juices and smoothies were also available inside. Outside the gate there are several food stalls and looks like a multiple choice of food items are available in these stalls. The restrooms inside the park were noted to be reasonably clean. There is an entrance fee of 100 Baht per adult and 50 Baht for child. it appears that there is a discount for...

San Kamphaeng Hot Springs Located in Ban Sahakon Subdistrict, Mae On District, Chiangmai. San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is a well-known natural tourist attraction in Chiang Mai Province. The area features a lush, shady atmosphere and is beautifully landscaped with vibrant flower gardens. Good place for picnic, where we spend half morning together. The hot spring is a geyser-type spring, formed when underground water is heated by hot molten rock. The heat passes through dense rock layers, gradually raising the water temperature. As the pressure builds, the hot water finds its way through cracks in the rocks and is pushed to the surface, creating a natural hot spring. The height of the water spout depends on the temperature. At San Kamphaeng, the water reaches a temperature of over 100°C and can shoot up to 15 meters high. We relax by soaking their feet in the warm water and enjoy boiling eggs in the hot spring. Additional facilities include mineral bath rooms, foot soaking pools, accommodation, camping areas, and restaurants for visitors’ convenience. Entrance Fees: • Thai citizens: Adults 40 THB, Children 20 THB • Foreigners: Adults 100 THB, Children 50 THB Service Fees: • Private mineral bath room: 65 THB for 20 minutes • Public bath pool: • Thai citizens: Adults 55 THB, Children 35 THB • Foreigners: Adults 100 THB, Children 50 THB • Group pool (up to 10 people): 500 THB per hour

The third annual Light Festival at San Kamphaeng Hot Springs offers a modest but charming display, though it comes with some drawbacks. The main illuminated installations are visually appealing but limited to just a few key spots, which might leave visitors wanting more. The paths between displays are dimly lit and, in some areas, wet and uneven, so bringing a flashlight is a must for safety.Food options are disappointingly sparse, with only a handful of stalls, limiting choices for attendees. Navigation is another issue—there’s a lack of clear signage directing visitors to the event entrance, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the mandatory 40-baht parking fee feels steep, especially considering the rough, dark walk from the parking area to the festival grounds, where extra caution is needed due to the uneven terrain.Overall, while the festival has potential, improvements in lighting, signage, food variety, and parking logistics would make it a more enjoyable experience. For now, it’s a decent outing if you’re prepared, but it falls short of being a must-visit event.
