We went to Rama IX Museum after seeing the good reviews. It consists of 4 museums in total, Rama being the "highlight". Although we were told that when we paid the full package that we would get access to all four museums, then national history museum turned out to be closed down for renovation. This was a huge disappointment, as this was our main reason for going there. How come the staff didn't know about this?? After setting foot into the science museum, we quickly discovered that it was outdated and the few interactive futures that had didn't work or was out of order. So, we decided to head for Rama IX. This could have been so much more interesting, if the museum had had storytelling elements. Instead, stuffed or plastic animals were posing outside their natural habits on the floor without any reference to their habitats. A plastic camel was posing on tiles and then a picture of the desert was shown in the background. How about some sand, some context like a beduin camp and beduins with storytelling g elements...
The maker spaces appeared dull and uninteresting and again - outdated. It seems the concept of a maker space has been reduced to the bare meaning of the word - a room where you can make something... The science museum does contain a dome with stargazing shows. We plan to return for this (extra charges of 45 thb applies) and hope that this will be a...
Read moreRama9 Museum is a brand new museum, just opened to public in mid December 2019, located in outskirts of Bangkok, Khlong Luang, Pathum thanee. The Rama 9 museum is the 4th museum in this National Science Museum compound with 3 pre existing museums ( and actually in my opinion, those three need more maintenance, in my opinion when visited those 3 museums around last year and I do not have an updated information about those three, of which 1)Science Museum (cuboid building) 2)Natural History Museum 3)IT museum).
Travel time by car or taxi from business district in Bangkok is about 40 - 50 min, as my visit was during the holiday, so it was traffic free and only took me about 30 min from Thonglo Sukhumvit area.
For the Rama 9 museum, mainly about ecosystem, the works for the King Rama 9, the world geography and variety of climate with different species and creatures that live in those different climates, arctic, sun artic, tundra, etc.
For young children and seniors, I think the facility is friendly. I can not compare the facility and displays with similar kind of museums in Europe or the USA due to reasons, but I think this is a very nice place for anyone to...
Read moreThe museum building is relatively new, clean, and very spacious. I asked one of the staff, and they recommended visiting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, as schools usually bring students for field trips on Thursdays and Fridays. However, my family and I visited on a Saturday, and it wasn’t a problem at all. There are many sections to explore, and I walked so much that I got tired. You could easily spend the whole day here from opening to closing. There are plenty of activities for children, and I especially loved the artificial waterfall zone. You can park in the parking lot and take a golf cart to the building.
