Worst experience of my life. We went to check out the waterfalls at Nuamang Safari Park, we were not informed correctly of appropriate clothing to be worn, were unaware of the hike we were about to embark on. We began our 2km hike up the steepest and the most poorly marked paths ever.. we got about half way up and thought it was never going to end. My partner and I were in flip flops and it made the experience horrible, perhaps if you had worn trainers it would be less painful. Due to the poorly marked paths we got lost and had to listen to the sound of the water to guide us, luckily we bumped into 2 other tourists who helped us find our way to the top. Waterfall was pretty but over advertised, nothing like I expected... if you are not a hiker I wouldn’t recommend making the effort to see this waterfall. We were told when we got to the top of the hill after the waterfall we would be picked up in a Jeep (that we paid for) we waited for about half an hour and no sight of Jeep so we thought we may have had to walk down hill abit towards the park, we had been walking for about 45 minutes and assumed we had been forgotten. Nuamang Safari park Jeeps kept driving past us, one stopped and told us they couldn’t take us back when we asked them for help because there wasn’t any seats left (there was 3). Luckily we walked a bit further and a local helped us in the end (locals very nice in Koh samui, have had great experiences with them so far). We had been trying to find our way back to the park for about 2 hours at this stage. Very upsetting being stranded in a place you do not know, would not recommend the waterfall, did not try any of the other activities they had to...
Read moreThe Namuang Safari Park is one of the worst cases of animal torture for money that I have ever seen in my life. It is on par with the notorious circus shows where animals are imprisoned and tortured to do things for money. The worst thing is more than half of Thailandese elephants are imprisoned in these safari parks. In this particular show, the elephants were chained and they used bull hooks. They made elephants kick the ball into the goal by stabbing them with a bull hook, they made them kneel (which is extremely painful for elephants) and perform all sorts of tricks with music, and even draw. Elephant trekking is another awful practice where they also used bull hooks to make them obedient. I didn't do trekking, of course, but you could clearly see it. You could even see the scratches and fresh wounds on their skin covered in iodine on almost all elephants out there. One girl even cried. The crocodile show was AWFUL. They were clearly drugged! The same goes for the chained leopard and tiger. You could see them on the camera outsid, people were taking selfies with them while the workers kept poking them with a stick for a better photo. It was just moronic. The monkey show was beyond awful. He kept pulling the rope and the monkey got extremely nervous and he just kept pulling him and poking him until he picked those coconuts. I can't believe that such a buddhist nation, supposedly full of understanding and empathy, could support such a thing. This safari park is immensely popular, they have about 100 safari jeeps and a huge lot with many animals. This should be illegal! Say NO to...
Read moreCame to this park purely to hike up to the waterfall, we didn't pay to do anything in the park itself at all and for good reason.
The hike was nice, but they offer elephant trekking up there - why? The walk is short. Leave the elephants alone. The Jeep rides are a rip off as well, they tell you the walk is 30 mins (it is) but most of the walk is from where they drop you off, the Jeep ride is all but 5 mins max? You have to walk the rest anyway. Don't waste your money on it - walk like we did. Take bug spray!!!! Enjoyable walk, pleasant enough waterfall. Shame about all the plastic bottle waste though - empty the bins more often, don't just leave it across the rocks
At the entrance you can see offers to ride elephants. If you came here to ride them, then you suck. As the elephants were in plain sight, we went to have a look at them. Their enclosures were small, concrete and empty. They looked relatively healthy which is the only positive thing to say here. They looked bored, depressed, stressed... Riding elephants and treating them this way is NOT ok.
This place also advertises photo ops with tigers and leopards, and monkey, baby elephant and crocodile shows. Avoid it if you want to help make this animal entertainment industry come to an end. Only go if you want to see the waterfall (30baht for moped parking includes a bottle of water). You don't need to pay to go inside the park to do...
