The Bourguiba Palace in Skanes, once a symbol of prestige and historical significance, has unfortunately lost much of its former charm. It is disheartening to see such an iconic place neglected and fading into obscurity.

The lack of maintenance is glaring, with the property showing clear signs of wear and tear. The palace, which once stood as a testament to elegance and grandeur, now feels unkempt and poorly preserved. Basic cleanliness seems to have been overlooked, further diminishing the appeal of the site.

What is even more disappointing is the lack of effort to promote or celebrate the history and significance of the palace. There is little to no advertising or signage to attract visitors, leaving the impression that the legacy of this place is being forgotten. Instead of being a beacon of history and culture, it feels as though the memory of this once-proud landmark is being quietly erased.

It’s a tragic loss for both the local community and visitors who wish to connect with the history of Tunisia. Restoring and promoting Bourguiba Palace could bring it back to its former glory and allow it to serve as a cultural and historical gem. Until then, it remains a shadow of its former self, a poignant reminder of what was once a symbol of pride...

The Presidential Palace of Bourguiba in Monastir presents a glimpse into Tunisia's modern history, though perhaps not a particularly captivating one. The architecture, dating from the mid-20th century, is functional and somewhat indicative of its era, but lacks the ornate grandeur one might expect from such a residence. Inside, the museum offers a collection of artifacts and personal items related to the country's first president. These provide some historical context, but the presentation is rather straightforward and may not deeply engage all visitors. The gardens surrounding the palace offer a pleasant, if unspectacular, space for a brief stroll. Overall, a visit to the Presidential Palace of Bourguiba could be considered a mildly interesting stop for those with a specific interest in Tunisian political history. However, for the average tourist, it might be more of a fleeting curiosity. A short visit of an hour or two would likely suffice to see what it has to offer without feeling like time...

The Presidential Palace of Bourguiba is a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in architecture or the history of modern Tunisia. While parts of the grounds could use restoration, the palace still offers a strong sense of its former grandeur. Walking through the rooms felt like stepping into another era, providing a quiet and reflective experience. When I visited, I was the only tourist there, which made it clear that the site deserves more attention. I encourage others to take the time to visit, even though it is a bit removed from the main tourist areas in Monastir. After exploring, I enjoyed a relaxing tea at the café next door. With greater support and more visitors, the palace could begin to regain the splendor...

Inside look of the modern architecture of the early 1960ties. Our 1ste presidents taste was modern. You will find similarities in style like the '58 World Expo in Belgium. A lot of automatisation, closest and cabinets that fold away. Take a look in his personal wing and his business area. See his 1 of 5 Mercedes 600 Limousine. Museum is not visited often, a lost treasure that is open for public. Price is for only a small fee less than 10 dinar you can travel back to the 60ties and stand where the founding father of Tunesia stood.

It’s amazing how what looks modern in one era begins to look very dated only a few decades later. Nevertheless this is well worth visiting because it gives you a glimpse into the life style of President Bourguiba and something of a reminder of Tunisia's rich historical and political heritage. I’m not certain that all Tunisians would have enjoyed the opulence of the surrounding. But that’s the case all over. Having said that it’s an interesting place.

Presidential villa of over sixty years ago, what do you expect... Must have been impressive at the time, with all its bronze and marble and crystal, but today I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it. Needs urgent renovation to bring back some of the splendor it once had.
