Bergama Museum — Attraction in Bergama

The Bergama Museum's origins trace back to 1865 with the discovery of the Zeus Altar reliefs within the Acropolis's Byzantine walls. Excavations by C. Humann and A. Conze (1878-1886) led to the establishment of a small depot museum. Due to the growing number of finds, a new museum was needed, and in 1932, Marshal Fevzi Çakmak initiated its construction. Designed by architects Bruno Meyer and Harold Hanson, the museum was completed in 1936.

The museum features artifacts from the Acropolis, Asklepion, Red Hall, and Musalla Cemetery, spanning from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman period. A really nice museum with informative placards in Turkish, German and English. The highlight is the scale model of the Altar of Zeus and the illustrations of this remarkable wonder (since its restoration in the 1879s, it is housed in the Pergamon museum in Berlin). I enjoyed the gravestones and artifacts from the Aesclepium as well.
