Zaman Müzesi/Şapel — Attraction in Selçuklu

In this review, I will not talk about the historical aspects of this Zaman Müzesi (or Time Museum). You can read about this on the internet. I will try here to shed light on a few areas that might be important to prospect visitors. This place consists of a single room, perhaps 4 x 10 meters, housing a collection of clocks, watches, and historical time measuring instruments. Some manuscripts are also displayed. I was surprized to see that some of them are still working. There is plenty of car parking space, from which you walk on a narrow walkway for about 100 meters before you reach the museum. While walking and to your left, there is an old historical cemetery (no longer used), with its tombstones neglected and left to decay. There is a security guard at the entrance and the entry was free when I visited the place (December 2023). I did not spot a toilet there. Finally, outside the entrance door, there are coin-operated binoculars on a fixed stand that can view almost the entire village since this museum is located on one of the highest spots. I was able to use it without putting a coin (perhaps the payment feature is disabled). If you happen to visit Sille, dedicate 30 minutes of your time to pass by this museum. Small but beautiful.

General note about Sille: Sille is a peaceful village trying to find itself a place on the tourist attraction map. It does have some historical landmarks but seems to have been neglected in the past. You can now notice a serious effort by its Municipality to give it a new look, restore what needs to be restored, organize the streets and shopping locations, beautify the general look etc., in what seems to be a move to make it an elegant tourist destination. Konya'nın Sille Mahallesi'nde Zaman Müzesi'ne dönüştürülen Sille Şapeli'nde Roma döneminden Cumhuriyete kadar kullanılan birçok zaman ve ölçü aleti bulunuyor..

Selçuklu Belediyesince 2012'den bu yana açık tutulan müzede Roma dönemine ait güneş saati, Osmanlı dönemi termometreli masa saati ve takvimler yer alıyor.

Zaman temalı müze özelliğiyle de ziyaretçilerini etkileyen yerde ilgi çeken eserler arasında, özel tasarım saatler, Osmanlı döneminde düzenlenen, genel kullanıma tanzim edilen ruznameler (günlük olayların yazıldığı defter), cep ve masa takvimleri ile resmi dairelerde kullanılan el yazma ve baskı takvim sergileniyor.

Ayrıca altın, gümüş köstekli cep saatleri, Türk Hava Kurumuna ait illere göre coğrafi ve ekonomik verilerin bulunduğu cetvelli takvim, Roma dönemine ait arkeolojik güneş saati örneği de ilgi çekiyor.

Mahalledeki mezarlığın içinden zaman müzesine gidiliyor.. mezarlık olduğu için doğum, ölüm ve zaman kavramları anlamlı geliyor..

Müzedeki usturlap ve saat dikkat çekenler arasında..

"Bilgisayarın atası dediğimiz usturlap, 'yıldız yakalar' demek. Buradaki eser, Osmanlı dönemi. Çok fonksiyonlu ölçüm aleti. Bunun kullanımı için eğitim gerekiyor. Osmanlı döneminde bu işi yapanlara da 'muvakkit' denilirdi. Bu replika olsa da 2-3 asırlık bir kıymetli eser. "tabut saati" adı verilen eserin 160 yıldır durmamış.. düşünün çok güzeller..
