Most reviews for Governor's Beach are overwhelmingly positive, and for good reason: its soft sand, clear blue water, and decent snorkeling earn it nearly five stars as a beach. However, cruise ship visitors should consider the full picture:
The beach is about half a mile from the Grand Turk port, just beyond comfortable walking distance. This means you'll likely incur an extra $30+ for transportation (golf cart or trolley) and potentially $25 or more for chairs and an umbrella. Be aware that some beach staff may be unaccommodating if you don't rent their chairs-as was my experience.
For food, your options are limited to a small beach shack or returning to your ship, which can cut your beach time short.
Recommendation: A much better value is the beach directly next to the port. It's free, offers easy access to restaurants on the island, and is a simple walk back to your ship for lunch. While potentially more crowded especially on days with two ships in port, the overall beach experience is comparable, and you'll save significantly on transportation,...
Read moreBeautiful white, soft sand. Clear, calm, water, great for swimming and no rip tides to speak of. No coral to get cut on. If you're looking for a place to play in the sand or get your tan on....this is the perfect beach and you will consider it a 5. Not many cruise tourists come over, so it's nice and quiet. About a mile walk away from the cruise port, so no need for a taxi. You can rent an umbrella and 2 chairs for $25 for the day from some locals. So why the 3 star rating? Because there's no coral, there really aren't many fish or areas to snorkel. There's a little man made area, but this beach will be a big let down if you enjoy searching out sea life. Which as an avid scuba diver, that's probably what I look forward to the most. So yeah, I was a bit disappointed, not because the beach disappointed, but because the sea life did. Still, with the right expectations in place, most will love this beach along with it's garbage eating donkeys. 🙂. Also, it does have bathrooms and showers which we're...
Read moreVery pretty! The colors of the water & the snorkeling were pretty good (for me, a beginner😁), only one option for food that was pricey ¬ very appealing. There's loungers and an umbrella you can rent, but we had beach blankets and just wanted to use that. We were told we still had to pay for ANY use of the beach areas. Noticed that other people were told more$ and others were 0$ (?) The donkeys that are all over the island were also on the beach and got into one of our bags. They pulled out the only edible item, which was gum! Loved the bigger waves and the crushed shell gritty feel that was into the water. The softer fine sand was up higher on the beach and so nice! With the ship anchored in the background, it made...
