I had a wonderful time within this park. The road to it is dirt and will make you question whether there's really anything back there, but it's a hidden gem. It's much better than the popular source of the Nile park on the other side of the river. The entrance was cheeper. On the other side, tour guides are on top of you as soon as you park, pushing you to take a boat ride, but here you are free to go at your own pace and do what you want. The place is beautiful. Small monkeys were playing around the trees and restaurant (not bothering people, but allowing us to get pictures), there are lovely flowers, and the whole place was so peaceful. Few people were there, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The memorial itself had a sign full of historical information to read about the search for the source of the Nile. Past the memorial is a staircase with well kept and even steps leading right down to the water. There's plenty of open green space with a beautiful view of the Nile. You can actually see the source itself from the hill, whereas you can't from the other park without a board ride. They do offer boat rides on this side as well, paid per person instead of per boat like the other side, although we didn't talk one. There was only one restaurant, but it was cheaper and had more variety than the main restaurant in the other park. I had chicken cordon blue. Unfortunately, it took a very long time to come out, but once I got it, it was delicious. The restaurant is also beautiful and has comfortable couches as well as regular tables. There are also guest houses. The restroom was very nice, modern and clean. The whole place was so peaceful we stayed for hours just resting. If you want to truly enjoy the Nile or have a retreat, I...
Read moreSpeke Memorial is a very good viewing point where you can clearly see the source of river Nile, the longest river in the history of the world , at that point John Speke stood and was able to see the source of river Nile and at that point one is able to view even other surrounding or near by things, like Mahatma Ghand mountain, and clear view of river Nile and lake Victoria . As well as the near by restaurants like rumors at the source restaurant and hotels , the place is not for free so some money is charged in order to go...
Read moreWe wanted to visit the Speke Monument, but then there is Living Waters Resort before that. They want a 10,000 UGX / per person fee. Ridiculous, it is as if the monument is owned by the resort. We wanted to skip the monument but were made to pay fee by the rude management just because we had crossed the entry gate of the resort and took a couple of pictures of the River Nile. Tourism board needs to...
