If you’re looking for memorable places to visit in Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Watan—the Presidential Palace should absolutely be on your list. It’s located downtown right on the waterfront, and it’s easy to access with plenty of transportation options to get you to the Visitor Centre.
Tip: It’s best to book your tickets online in advance. The website is user-friendly, and payment can be made with Apple Pay or a credit card. When I visited, there was no lineup, and although there were plenty of people, everything was well-organized. They have regular shuttle buses that take you from the Visitor Centre to the palace and back at the end of your visit.
The palace grounds are beautiful, and the palace itself is absolutely stunning. It’s easy to walk through, take photos, and explore. You’ll find clean washrooms throughout the site, a gift shop, and a coffee shop where you can sit indoors or outside by the elegant fountain pool.
If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of ceremonial guards on horseback near the fountains, a great photo opportunity!
If you stay for the evening, the palace remains open until around 7:30–7:45 PM, just in time for the Palace in Motion light show. There’s casual seating on stone benches facing the palace where you can enjoy the show. It’s not too long, but it’s incredibly well done, it’s amazing to see how they project visuals onto the palace and bring it to life.
After the show, shuttle buses are available to take you back to the Visitor Centre. The entire site is very clean, well maintained, and staff are friendly and professional.
Dress Code Note • Men: Pants and a t-shirt or long-sleeve shirt are fine. • Women: Long sleeves, long pants, and a headscarf are required, and they are strict about it. I saw security ask some visitors to delete photos and re-cover themselves after removing their headscarves by the fountain area. It’s all about showing respect.
Whether you’re there for a quick visit (under two hours) or want to stay longer and relax, it’s easy to enjoy at your own pace. There are couches and seating inside if you want to take your time.
One of the most fascinating parts of the tour for me was the room with ancient manuscript-books on topics like mathematics, science, and medicine. It was truly impressive to see the depth of knowledge preserved in that setting.
Highly recommended absolutely...
