We reached before dawn to explore the lake and adjoining mountains. It was serene, dead quiet. The access is pretty easy and Google Maps takes you there without a problem.
There were no other visitors and the views were breath taking. However some traces of camping were there, even though it is prohibited to camp, barbecue, or swim there. We also saw a Municipality Truck picking up trash. The area was very clean though. PLEASE DO NOT LITTER!
We spent an half an hour at the lake, took plenty of photos, and felt the temperature rising as the sun rose. Explored the trails in the mountains for another half hour and then headed to see Hatta Dam.
It is recommended to visit before sunrise or in winter, else one would not feel like stepping out of the car. Once you step out, then you experience the quietness and serenity.
An SUV is not required one can visit the lake easily in a sedan. It is not advisable to go in gravel tracks in the mountains.
We also discovered that one can access the Hatta without having to cross Omani Territory. In case someone is travelling without an ID or is barred from crossing Omani enclave.
