Hazlehead Park — Attraction in Aberdeen City

🌳✨ A Wonderful Day at the Park and Zoo ✨🦓

Walking through the gates of the children’s park, I was instantly greeted by the sound of laughter and the soft hum of excitement in the air. The sun spilled golden light across the bright swings, colourful slides, and gentle see-saws, where children raced, climbed, and giggled without a care. The soft grass beneath our feet, dotted with flowers, made it feel like a little world built just for joy. Parents sat nearby on benches, their smiles mirroring the happiness of the little ones..

After a fun-filled playtime, we wandered towards the small zoo tucked just beyond the playground. It felt like stepping into another adventure. First came the friendly rabbits in the petting area, their curious noses twitching as the children gently fed them. A little further on, bright parrots squawked from their perches, showing off feathers as radiant as rainbows.

The highlight was a gentle pony ride, where children’s eyes lit up with both excitement and wonder. Even though the zoo was small, it carried a magical charm—close enough to feel personal, big enough to spark curiosity. The blend of nature, play, and animals created an unforgettable experience where learning and fun went hand in hand.

Lovely park for a walk in the city. The coffee shop is nice and has a good selection of food and drink. Pets Corner is worth a visit to see the animals too. Entry to the animal area is cheap for a family.

The refurbished playground LOOKS great, but it is not easy to navigate with toddlers: far too many blind-spots and sheer drops. Would have been better to fence-off the “toddler” area, like so many toddler playgrounds, so young children are contained, safe, and don’t try to play with potentially dangerous equipment that is clearly designed for older children.

Other parents commented that the whole experience was stressful and “worse than soft play” - constantly losing sight of your children because it is difficult to get around the large play equipment quickly while your child is running around on there!

The largest slide, in particular, is a death trap. I saw lots of children hurt themselves on the bottom turn: either bumping on it or tumbling over the edge, because the slide suddenly turns the opposite direction. I am surprised that this slide passed a health and safety inspection, to be honest.

Unfortunately, as much as I love the park, I won’t be visiting with my children again, as the playground - as much as I’m sure it is great fun for kids - is a nightmare and dangerous for...

Beautiful park with large grassy play areas. Rose Garden is immaculate and has the Piper Alpha Memorial as centre piece. Please pay your respects to the victims of this tragedy. Several other small memorial gardens beautifully kept. Lovely woodland walks round the outer area of park, circling round the golf course. The maze is good to wander round you do get out again! Story of King Robert the Bruce depicted on Cairns, good history. The Pets cornet has a variety of animals and reptiles, with a visit for a small charge. The children's play area is at present being upgraded to new equipment. We'll presented an comfortable cafe offering snacks at good prices. Toilet facilities in portable toilet block/cabin could be better as access by steps, would be difficult for people with disabilities to enter. I would like to see a new solid build toilet facility in the near future. Good parking facilities, but on busy days/school holidays, parking can...
