This large green area serves both as a park, golf course and an open pastureland, so a stroll through the largely grassy area leads to close encounters with cattle and stumbling across the odd golf ball.
It's called Westwood but trees are not the most prevalent feature, grassy rough pastureland forms the larger part of this green space. Although there are trees bordering the road that passes through the park and wooded areas at the 'town-end' of the park. It's a bit of a curiousity as there is only the regular spacing of many of the trees bordering the road and the parts of parks boundaries, as well as the cropped grass of the golf course which makes it park-like in places. Not that it is called a park but it is certainly a green space which serves many purposes including leisure. Beware of uneven ground and cow pats and do not expect lots of pretty flowers, but please don't get the impression I am complaining. This green space offers an opportunity to enjoy a pleasant walk in attractive countryside that just happens to be in an urban setting. However, I want people to be aware of some of the challenges that it may present to some visitors. For instance apart from the road that runs through it there are no paths and the only facilities we saw were at the golf club and we did not check to see if these were open to none members. So I would not recommend this for visitors with pushchairs or wheelchairs as they would struggle to make any progress unless they stuck strictly to the areas immediately bordering the road. There were lots of friendly dogs there and often they were off leash and eager to come up and make our...
Read moreAn enchanting nature retreat, Beverley Westwood offers a stunning escape from the demands of everyday life. The tree-lined pathways are truly awe-inspiring.
You can't help but be amused by the urge to point out and exclaim "Cow!" as you drive by.
The Westwood holds both treasured childhood memories of gathering conkers and perhaps less fond recollections of cross country runs during our P.E. classes in our teenage years.
In the past year, I have found the Beverley Westwood to be a beloved destination for leisurely dog walks, tranquil picnics, and the perfect launchpad for stargazing nights. I even witness glimpses of the recent meteor shower!
The Beverley Westwood has seen some ware over the years. The benches are reaching a point of dis-repair. They are often too muddied and over ground to use. The laybys are incredibly bumpy, so park up there at...
Read moreA wide and large area of grass land grazed by local cows, parking around it at local points. There are quite a few rules and regulations so please familiarise them so not to fall fowl of the law.. It's not all flat so some walking can be a struggle if not fit but plenty of open footpaths with great open views. Quite a lot of dog owners exercise their dogs here , but control them on a lead when near the live stick. There is a windmill near the centre of Westwood stray . It's a great place for running and walking but watch out for the cow pat's. It's also a short walk into Beverley town with a lot of individual well known shops , and a visit to the beautiful minister is a must , with free entry, a delightful medieval building,...
