If I could put zero stars I would. I’ve tried studying here since 2023 and it’s been nothing but a ball ache. All open days they say you are a name not a number, honestly not one lecturer could know my name. However, the security would. Only ever had bad experience with security. Matt, never wanted to listen to what anyone had to say, and it was his way or no one else’s. He would purposely provoke certain situations. We reported him, but due to the small university, he was never told off as they are friends. Even the hall tutors were rude, and never wanted to listen. All the good lecturers I had to begin with have left. Now it’s lecturers with high accents and can barely be understood. No support when it’s needed. I don’t get how Newman is so high for student satisfaction when they are terrible at answering phone calls. Try ringing any of the departments because I’m sure it will take so many attempts and you will be lucky if they even answer. There all very unprofessional, I’ve appealed my stuff, due to only faults of there own on there end, and I was granted it, however, I’m now waiting for stuff to be marked, and trying to ring them for an update, is beyond me. If I could make any sort of recommendation to new and upcoming students, don’t come here. You’re just a number, and Newman university is terrible and just unprofessional all round.
The only lecturer I’ve heard of that’s good and been helpful, has been Bruce Coates. And from what I’ve heard the uni only stabs there lecturers in the back and...
Read moreI have had very poor experiences with this university. I attempted my PGCE with them a few years ago, but every aspect of my experience was negative.
I had placement in a school which did not want me there or wanted to help me succeed. My mentor barely spoke to me or instructed me in anything. The university immediately put me on a cause for a concern without addressing any issues I was having with the school; apparently, all fault was with me. Once I was removed from the school placement, it took months to find a replacement. Despite my best efforts, it appeared that the university was no longer concerned with helping me but more than happy to let me linger on in order to receive my student loans.
My mental health was severely affected; I was made to feel like I was in the wrong in everything. I was made to feel like a failure. The counselling service provided at the university were practically non-existent; I only received email responses from certain members of staff after they were informed that I had attempted to take my own life. I was put on medical leave and never heard from the university again.
Thankfully, I have taken other courses and achieving my dream in educating children. I am in a much better place now than I ever thought possible. I only share my experiences to allow others to reflect and, hopefully, avoid the difficulties...
Read moreShameful university. Do not waste your money going to this institution it has no reputation for teaching as they could not find me a placement at a school for a long period of time. When a problem occurs during placement the staff do not provide support but make it to be that you are the problem even though i worked all day and night. I have put in a complaint about discrimination and racism about this university before the pandemic started and still have not heard a response to this day. They seem to have completely buried my case as forgotten. the response is oh we as a university take this seriously but given that you did not even help me before the pandemic and to this day not even bothered to respond to what has happened to me or given my money back for what i encountered i would advise everyone to stay away. Especially in the times of the BLM movement how can a case as mine be buried so badly by this university. At every constant moment i was made to feel like everything is my fault by the horrible staff at the university and i had worked so hard to be treated as if i was worthless and told to get...
