The very old mill (mentioned in the Doomsday book) was renovated then opened to the public. The mill itself is very pretty. The volunteers are lovely and knowledgeable. The items are a little eclectic - someone obviously donated a collection of bottle openers so they've shoehorned them in next to a display of a cooper because "barrels often have wine in them and then the wine goes in bottles and then you'd need a bottle opener." The stairs are very tight and narrow. Although outside and the café are deemed wheelchair accessible, there's not enough to see to justify the entry price if you can't go inside. The café has a small selection and nice-looking homemade cakes. You get 30% off in the café with the price of entry to encourage you...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find. A delightfully layed out museum with very well kept gardens. We especially liked the period agricultural & war displays, adding a nice touch to the museum. The tour was finished in their lovely cafe. Light food including fresh cakes & scones, washed down with tea coffee all at very reasonably prices. All served by a very welcoming member of staff. Whilst there, we discovered an elderly couple who had travelled by bus & the West Somerset railway. We went by car with the car park only a couple of minutes from entrance. We weren't disappointed by the mill not working as everything is all in place anyway showing all the machinery as it was. A great visit, which we would...
Read moreGreat couple of hours spent here. This is a gem which is on our doorstep! Lovely afternoon tea! Great exhibits and friendly staff and owner! Only downside was my husbands chair collapsed beneath him in the café! No harm done, and apologies all around! It was like stepping back into a different era and one that we could remember! This is a very personal project that has taken years to put together and obviously has not stopped yet! I wish the owners continued success. I would not recommend for very small children, but it is really for children of school age who are able to absorb information. If you are at a loose end in Taunton or surrounding area it is well...
