An enjoyable summer visit. At this time of year, the most colourful areas are the sunk garden and the rock garden. The woodland garden would look spectacular in the spring with its abundance of camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas and other acid-loving species. The sequoias in the Wellingtonia Walk are spectacular at any time of year. Sequoias are simply wonderful trees. The sunk garden is a riot of colour and flower-loving insects at this time of year. The pond in the sunk garden was a bit silty and a tad whiffy but nothing to put anyone off. I loved the rock garden. Just so you know, there's some remodelling work going on (July 2022) in the rock garden primarily with the tiered water features but that's it. The scents of lavender, thyme, rosemary, etc, permeate the space. It was an hot day when we visited and it was like walking around in the Greek countryside. Tea room serving light snacks and hot and cold drinks. There's an extensive lawned area outside the Tea Room. You can sit inside or out in full sunshine or under the shade of the trees. Read moreA beautiful, extremely peaceful garden, probably one of the most peaceful garden that I’ve been to. This garden is unique for its yew topiary hedges, and I’ve never seen so many of them.
The rock garden is particularly beautiful and calming. The wild yellow grasses flowing in the wind give the garden a unique charm. I was told by the gardeners that roses are great in June, and then late August would be a great time for all the summer blooms. Even September would be great for summer flowers. Spring for the woodland flowers, but I prefer garden flowers.
I could have easily spent a whole afternoon here. Many people were sitting on the grass enjoying teas and cakes. Cakes and drinks were a little pricy. However as I depend on buses to travel, the last bus back to Faversham was at 14:51, which gave me only 2 hrs to enjoy the gardens. Read moreDoddington Place Gardens is part of a 850 acres Edwardian estate, located on the edge of Doddington village, near Faversham in Kent, UK.
The estate suffered extensive damage in the 1987 hurricane. 60 trees were lost in the garden alone. Today it is hard to discern any trace of the storm.
The whole estate is well looked after, with benches everywhere to enjoy the awesome work of the garden art.
You can walk down the different trails there: the Folly walk, the Wellingtonia walk, the Rock garden with lots of little ponds with salamanders and the main pond, Spring garden, the Woodland garden and the Sunk garden.
The gardens are open to public only two days a week: Wednesday and Sunday between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.
There is the cafe with cakes and drinks with sitting area outside available.
