Lovely country park, pleasant in the sunshine. The Tarn is perfect to stroll around,, by yourself, children or with animals. There is a cafe for hot and cold food and drinks. Prices are though just above average. The staff are friendly and helpful. Also available are tourists souvenirs to buy. Rowing on the Tarn is available from Easter onwards. You can also join a Rowing Club. On the water you will find swans and ducks, so it will always be perfect weather.

Update 24/10/25

This is still a popular place to go, even when the weather is colder. There is a playground for children, and seed can be bought at the cafe to feed the ducks and swans. The staff are on first name terms with the regulars, and are still very friendly. The prices do seem to be high, especially the cakes. Though the drink prices do seem to be in line, in comparison to other establishments. - just tea's and coffees folks. You can also bottles of coke etc Also available are different flavours of ice-cream. You can sit inside or outside. Outside are picnic tables to sit on. THESE ARE NOT USEABLE BY WHEELCHAIR USERS. That said you can pull up and stop and eat at the end of the table. For those who are slightly disabled, you will be able to sit on the end of the bench, as you my not relish the thought of climbing into the picnic table to sit down.

I also noticed that if you have an interest in that sort of thing, though I don't know if it is weekly or fortnightly. But there seems to be active model boat club you can join. Am sure that in the cafe you will be able to find out more.

So all in all this is a good place to visit all year round, and don't forget, its always good...

Talkin Tarn is a beautiful country park with a lovely lake and indoor/outdoor seating cafe. The walk round the lake is easy going with a well established and maintained footpath and many lovely country-style benches, dedicated to people who loved and frequented the park, to stop and have a break and view different aspects of the lake. If you are dog lovers, as we are, you would struggle to find a nicer or more suitable place to visit to walk your dog as the whole place is very dog friendly. There is ample parking there and, although you do need to pay for it, you can park from opening at 10.00am until closing at 6.00pm for £2.25. Talkin village with its lovely country pub is only a mile or two away. Brampton, with a nice selection of shops, cafes, pubs etc is within easy driving distance and Lanercost Abbey, with its very dog friendly eatery, is a couple of miles outside Brampton. All of which are well...

Brilliant place for a autumnal walk.. large carpark, toilets were clean and tidy, cafe and gift shop and a play area for kids... As we walked down the slope passed the play area, we were greeted by a number of swans, ducks and Moor hens.. We took the lake walk which lead us up into the woods, but others are well signposted around the whole lake and into the woodland.. The dogs loved the shallow waters edge for a paddle or even a swim and woodland area to let off some steam in the crunchy leaves.. Benches are ideally placed about the park to make the most of the view of the water and surrounding areas.. few fishermen and the odd rower were out.. Look out for bird boxes and the sculptures carved in to trees, some big enough to sit on.. check-out the bird/squirrel feeding station but be quiet.. will come back here during the summer, do the longer route round the whole lake/tarn, just to see the difference...

It is a fabulous place to walk and enjoy the tranquillity of nature. On-site car park, charging is between 10:00-18:00, £1.20 for an hour and £2.40 for all day. You can pay by cash, or app. There is a cafe and toilets open from 10:00-16:00. Accessible parking is free for 3 hours behind the cafe, entrance at the bottom of the car park. There's an accessible toilet that requires a Radar key. There are plenty of options for walking/running, including an accessible route around the Tarn. It's popular for dog walking. Numerous benches are located around the Tarn for you to absorb the sights and sounds. A lot of activities are organised here throughout the year from water sports to park run, astronomy to orienteering with numerous others at the education centre. There's a bird hide and a few sculptures to explore, too.

We've been here a few times, it's always a lovely walk with cracking views and plenty of information points about the algae, plants and wildlife at the tarn and surrounding areas. The cafe is nice, friendly staff, plenty of poo-tins for the doggies, nice kids park, woodland walk, plenty of facilities including paddleboard, fishing and boat hire. Only minus is the car park is terrible... Well the payment machines are anyway. The parking is cheap, whole day I think is £2.85? But I'd strongly suggest downloading the mipermit app before going as that's the only reliable way to pay for your parking.
