Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre — Attraction in Burgh by Sands

Our visit to the bird sanctuary was nothing short of magical!

What made this experience so unique was the opportunity to get up close with such a diverse range of bird species. Each one had its own story, and Gary was incredibly passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about the well-being of these beautiful creatures. His love for the birds shone through and added so much depth to the experience.

The hands-on interactions were absolutely amazing—feeding the birds and having them gently land on us was such a joyful, once-in-a-lifetime moment that our whole family will never forget. It was educational, interactive, and deeply heartwarming, perfect for both kids and adults..

We left feeling inspired, grateful, and completely in awe of these incredible animals....

What an amazing experience. Cannot recommend a visit to the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre enough - could do it all again. The half day activity is an amazing few hours spent with Gary and his birds. His knowledge is off the scale and his passion shows. The relationship he has with his birds is remarkable to see. Included in the half day was the Hawk Walk which was magical. Gary is such a lovely guy, felt very welcome and comfortable from the start. I booked the experience for my partner, however, this experience could be enjoyed by the WHOLE family, no age limitations - don’t sit on the fence, book! Went for the birds, stayed for the Gary! We had the most wonderful time doing the family experience with Gary and his amazing animals. My daughter (5) and my partner and I all loved it. Gary made sure to include the kiddo throughout the whole experience and was genuinely such a joy to be around. The love and care he has for his animals is very clear. And we experienced much more than we imagined we would for the price! Definitely could be charging more. His home and grounds are impeccable and we have not stopped talking about our time there.
