A lot of credit should be given to those who look after this historical remains in a well maintained area with excellent information boards. Access is through the graveyard of St Mary's Church. The Radcliffe family were once important landowners in Lancashire with Sir James having fought with King Henry VI. It's believed that the tower was erected in 1403 as a defensive building being close to a bend in the River Irwell and was originally connected to a Manor House and Hall. It had three stories, the ground floor that's left having been the kitchen with three fireplaces.

Radcliffe Tower Is Supposed To Be The Oldest Building In Greater Manchester. Dating Back To 1092 Originally And Has A Ghost Story Of Lady Radcliffe Who Was Locked In A Room By Her Dad Because She Fell In Love... The Area Is Clean And Tidy And Obviously The Building Has Decayed But This Building Has Had Many Roles Throughout Time .. Although The Area Has A Fence Around It You Can Get In Through The Graveyard 🪦.. The Graveyard And The Tower I've Got No Doubt Is A Spooky Place At Nighttime On A Full Moon .. This Is One of Radcliffes Hidden Paranormal And History Gems 💯

Radcliffe tower is what remains of Radcliffe's founding family heritage, it's a wonderful trail which reveals the history 9f the area from neolithic to the 19th century. I enjoyed learning more about the area surrounding greater manchester. Beautiful park too!
