We were on a lengthy drive home from a wonderful bank holiday weekend away in Wales when we decided to stop at the garden and have a wander around with our dog before we went home. We are national trust members and showed both of our cards at the check in point.
Rather than welcoming us, the man at the front told us that he better start by telling us where we COULD NOT take our dog. We were told that dogs leave yellow spots in the grass, therefore were not allowed in many of the areas.
This is listed as a dog friendly garden. Had we understood what the rules really were, we would not have bothered. Some exceptional needlepoint to view in the house along with paintings and furniture…small tea rooms with limited inside seating - outside seating area with parasols …no gift shop which I found unusual!..second hand book area in barn.. estate walks and woodland children’s exploring area. Plenty of parking spaces available and disabled parking spaces too. Disability access almost everywhere with chair lift to tea rooms …disabled toilets available…access to house may be limited depending upon disability and the same for the estate walks — gets busy so plan your arrival time!!! We visited lunchtime and it was...

There are walking paths where dogs are welcome but otherwise, despite Google information, dogs are NOT ALLOWED in the house, gardens nor the tea rooms. So not a great visit that I had planned with my dog. Fortunately someone was able to take care of my dog while I had a quick look at the gardens. The unusual topiary in the front garden has unfortunately been lopped down for refurbishment. The large barn dates from 1500 and is...
